Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam is playing a crucial part for the team. In the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka, the player scored 115 runs from 105 balls and helped the host to manage 305/7 (50 overs).  Azam replied that he gives 100% during his practice when he was asked about the secret of his stunning performance.

After scoring the century against Sri Lanka, Azam gained the third position in the list of the players with most centuries by Pakistani batsmen.

He opined that the practices and try to give a hundred per cent but when he is the field he gives 200%.

“The secret is that I give 100 per cent while preparing myself for matches, be it net practice or training in the gym,” Babar told the media in Karachi.

“And, when I am in middle for batting, I try to give my 200 per cent,” he added.

He is breaking the old records and setting a new record. In 2019, he completed 1,000 ODI runs in 19 innings. He surpassed Javed Miandad who reached the milestone in 21 innings in 1987.  But he is focused on his game not on making records, Azam said.

“I am only focused on my game, I target match by match performance without aiming for any record,” he said.

“Records are never on my mind. I usually get to know about them after my innings,” he added.

Babar Azam would love to captain the Pakistan team

Sarfaraz Ahmed was again handed over the captaincy of the team in the home ground though Pakistan didn’t perform well in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 under his captaincy. Azam was asked if he wants to replace Sarfaraz from captaincy. He showed interest to become the captain but he said that he wants to focus more on his performance.

“Any player would love to do that,” he said if he is willing to be captain but added that he’s not focused about it and he is working as the deputy of Sarfaraz.

“These are the decision to be taken by PCB,” he added.

“My job in the middle is to play till the end and let other batsmen accelerate around me, but I change my game according to the situation. I will continue playing my game the way I play,” he added.

Meanwhile, the third ODI will be played on 2nd October and Pakistan is in lead with 1-0 after winning the second ODI. The first ODI was washed out because of rain. Then the team will play the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting from 5th October.
