West Indies’ right-arm pacer Miguel Cummins has retired from international cricket as he has joined Middlesex as a Kolpak player. “Stuart Law recommended that we get Miguel over, to have a look at him, on the back of the time he had spent with him whilst coaching the West Indies. I had watched Miguel on video, but it is often only when you see someone play live that you get a true reflection of their capabilities. I was immediately impressed by Miguel,” Angus Fraser, Middlesex’s director of cricket, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Cummins’ previous international appearance had come during the opening Test of the series against India, where he went wicketless. He was replaced by Keemo Paul for the second Test, who declared his fitness before the Test match.

Cummins had made his Test debut against India in 2016. In the third Test of the series, he shone with the ball and scalped nine wickets. Though he could not continue his form and hasn’t been able to replicate his performance.
His decision to leave international could also be due to the fact that the West Indies do not play a Test championship match for the next 11 months. They just play one Test against Afghanistan in November and will only play their next Test in June.
He isn’t in the scheme of things in white-ball cricket and hasn’t played an ODI since 2017.
Cummins has joined Middlesex for three years and should he do well during his time with the club, his deal can always get extended.

In the other case, he can also make his comeback to the national team like few players have done in past.
