I Think Indian Team Is Ready For The World Cup – Zaheer Khan

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is coming near. Zaheer Khan, the former Indian pacer, believes that the Indian national cricket team is ready for the upcoming World Cup.

England and Wales will host the forthcoming World Cup from 30 May to 14 July. Only the top ten teams will participate in this upcoming competition, so it is going to be a very challenging tournament.

Many experts have already claimed that the second-ranked ODI team India is one of the favourite sides in the upcoming World Cup. The former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan also believes the same.

Talking about this, Zaheer Khan has pointed out the recent dominant performances by the Indian pacers. He feels that the Indian fast bowlers are performing very good in modern international cricket. Speaking on this, Zaheer Khan pointed out that how the Indian pacers are continually fighting for their spots in the playing XI.

Zaheer Khan said according to Mail Today, “I think the fast bowlers have been superb. If you look at their numbers, they speak volumes. As a group, they are able to achieve lots. To win Test matches you need 20 wickets, and it has not been a case of just one bowler accumulating all wickets.

“All of them have contributed and just the fact that Umesh (Yadav) and Bhuvneshwar (Kumar) have to wait for their turn shows the depth we have in the bowling line-up.”

Since early 2018, the Indian pacers have dominated all over the world. Starting from the South Africa tour, they continued it in England, and the recently concluded Australia and New Zealand tour.

The bowlers are familiar with different conditions

Zaheer Khan also spoke about the various conditions factor for the bowlers. The former Indian left-handed pacer further added that the Indian pace bowlers had done well in different conditions too.

He added, “Playing conditions are something that comes into place when you visit the country for the first time. This lot of players we are talking about has played enough cricket to not be bothered by it. The bowlers have been familiar with different conditions and they have produced good performances too.”

These are the reasons why Zaheer Khan feels that India is ready to play the upcoming World Cup. India will begin their World Cup journey on 5 June against South Africa at Southampton.

Before that tournament, India has the only international assignment, and that is the home limited-overs series against Australia. Zaheer Khan believes that it will be another challenge before the crucial World Cup tournament.

He said, “Rest assured, I think Indian team is ready for the World Cup. They have given enough glimpses of their strength and the forthcoming series against Australia will be another challenge to relish. Overall, I think we are ready.”

Australia will now play the two-match T20I and five-match ODI series against the host India from 24 February to 13 March.
