On Friday (14th June), during that crucial game, Chris Gayle becomes the leading ODI run-scorer against England. While the left-handed batsman lost his wicket on 36 runs off 41 balls, he has scored 1,632 ODI runs against England. During that innings, he surpassed the previous record holder Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) who scored 1,625 ODI runs against England.

After England captain Eoin Morgan decided to field first, Gayle had to score 30 runs to achieve this special feat. Before this match, Gayle (1,596 runs) was the fourth most ODI run-scorer against England and also the second most ODI run-scorer for Windies against England.

Soon in that innings, Gayle surpassed the former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting who scored 1,598 ODI runs against England. Then he becomes the leading ODI run-scorer as a Windies batsman against England by surpassing Sir Viv Richards (1,619 runs). Soon after that, Gayle becomes the overall leading ODI run-scorer against England by hitting a six.
