The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket Australia (CA) are set to discuss the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 on this Friday (8th May). The novel COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic has already forced to postpone many recent cricket matches and also has opened up the doubtful future of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, which will be the seventh edition of this men’s T20 World Cup, between 18th October and 15th November 2020. However, the coronavirus has opened up an uncertain future of this tournament. Though the ICC is still hopeful about this tournament, they are also looking for some other plans in the case of postponement of this tournament.

While the ICC and CA are ready to discuss the fate of the forthcoming T20 World Cup, they are unlikely going for any final decision, as the ICC board meetings will be scheduled soon.

Some source told TOI, “Expect a holding statement. Nothing more, for now. The ICC board meetings are scheduled soon. There’s a likelihood of a new chairman coming on board. Things may move further only once that happens.”

Hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 according to the original schedule: All of it is going to be a logistical nightmare

In this crisis, due to the coronavirus, the Australian government has sealed the border until this September. The people, who are involved in the present developments, believe that it will be a huge task to organise the big global tournament like ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in this October-November, where a total of 16 teams will participate. They have especially pointed out the hectic work of logistic management.

Some of those claimed, “That’ll be a gargantuan task. And what’s the guarantee that Covid is going to so thoroughly relent by then that crowds will be allowed. So, chances are, playing the tournament to empty stands. For something like that, to fly in 16 teams from across the world, flying in other working hands including match-officials, arranging hospitality, booking domestic travel for the scheduled month — all of it is going to be a logistical nightmare.”

Apart from organising the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, the CA has another big plan in the forthcoming home summer, and that is hosting the full international series against the top team India.
