Australian cricketer Steven Smith returns to the leading position of the ICC Test batting rankings while the Indian captain Virat Kohli has slipped down to the second position. Meanwhile, the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has climbed up to the third position in the ICC Test bowling rankings.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the latest Test players’ rankings on Monday (2nd September). Despite missing the Leeds Test due to concussion, Steven Smith overtook Virat Kohli and regained the top position of the ICC Test batting rankings.

Steven Smith is one rating point ahead of Virat Kohli

Indian captain Virat Kohli scored a crucial 76 runs in the first innings of the recently concluded Jamaica Test. However, during India’s second innings, Kohli scored a golden duck. Now, the previous no.1-ranked Test batsman Kohli has slipped down to the no.2 position. Smith (904) has just one more rating point than Kohli (903).

Meanwhile, Joe Root and Ajinkya Rahane have climbed up to the sixth and seventh position respectively in Test batting rankings.

Hanuma Vihari, who won the Player of the Match award in Jamaica Test for his outstanding batting performances, has made a huge jump in Test batting ranking. During the first innings of Jamaica Test, Vihari (111 runs) smashed his maiden Test century. Later, the right-handed batsman scored 53 not out during India’s second innings of that Test match. Before this Test match, Vihari was standing at the no.70 position in Test batting rankings. Now, he has jumped up 40 spots as his latest Test batting ranking is no.30.

On the other hand, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has earned his new best Test bowling rankings. The right-arm pacer claimed a hat-trick during the Jamaica Test. During Windies’ first innings of that Test, Bumrah managed to bag six wickets (6/27). Later, in the second innings, Bumrah took another wicket (1/31). In the latest Test bowling rankings, Bumrah is in the third position. This time he has climbed up four spots.

Meanwhile, Windies captain Jason Holder has also climbed up to the joint fourth position along with the England pacer James Anderson. During the Jamaica Test, Holder had the bowling figures of 32.1-9-77-5 and 11.4-5-20-1.

The other Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma have moved up to the 18th and 20th position respectively in the Test bowling rankings.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins is holding the top-ranked of the ICC Test bowling rankings. South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has also retained his second spot in this ranking.

Jason Holder and Ben Stokes are in the top two positions respectively in the ICC Test all-rounder rankings.
