ICC World Cup 2019: Mohammad Azharuddin Confident Of India Lifting The Trophy

Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has shown full faith in the abilities of Virat Kohli’s men to lift the ongoing ICC World Cup. Azharuddin believes India will go all the way in the tournament. In fact, India has been the only side which has been unbeaten thus far in the tournament.

Men in Blue have won five out of the six matches they have played and they are one win away from securing the semifinals berth. Virat Kohli-led has come up with clinical performances in the tournament and they would aim to continue their good form going ahead in the competition.

India has ticked the right boxes.

India has ticked the right boxes and they are a serious contender for the trophy. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have done the major share of the scoring whereas the bowlers have been right on the money. However, the middle order has the team’s, Achilles Heel.

India’s middle order is team’s, Achilles Heel.

Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav have not come up with consistent performances and India could have their backs against the wall in a match where Kohli and Rohit will not get runs.

“India will be unbeaten till the 14th (July), I think. It appears that way. It looks like that. India is a very happy team. Everybody is performing. I don’t see any reason why can’t go all the way,” said Azhar.

On the other hand, England has lost its last two matches and Azharuddin believes that the team’s morale is low. England is considered as the favourites for the trophy but they have failed to come up with complete performance in the last two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia.

“England’s morale is down. They have a very good side but I think they are struggling. They won’t even qualify for the semi-final. That would be a disappointment,” added Azhar.

Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar hasn’t been able to grab his opportunities with both hands. Mohammad Azharuddin believes Rishabh Pant should get a chance in place of the all-rounder. Pant also has the experience of playing in the English conditions and had scored a fine Test hundred.

“We need to play the best side. Vijay Shankar has a lot of talent and skill. But he doesn’t have the experience. I think we should go with Rishabh Pant. He has done well against England in the Tests.

“He scored a hundred there. He is raring to go all the time,” Mohammad Azharuddin said.

India will play their next match against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 30th June.
