Irfan Pathan Asserts David Warner’s Uninspiring Captaincy Main Reason For SRH’s Poor Run In IPL 2021

Irfan Pathan has said that David Warner’s uninspiring captaincy was one of the main reasons for the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) poor run in IPL 2021.

SRH handed over the reins to Kane Williamson after suffering defeats in five of their six matches under David Warner’s leadership. However, the move did not yield immediate dividends as the Orange Army was handed a 55-run drubbing by the Rajasthan Royals.

Irfan Pathan: SRH’s Biggest Problem Was David Warner’s Captaincy Particularly Batting Cautiously

During a discussion on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan expressed surprise at SRH’s insipid displays in IPL 2021 and pointed out that David Warner’s captaincy and batting are to be blamed to a large extent.

“They surprised us. They were a top-four team for me. SRH’s biggest problem was David Warner’s captaincy, the way he was managing the team and the way he was batting. He was batting very cautiously,” said Pathan.

The former India all-rounder highlighted that SRH replacing their skipper implies they were dissatisfied with his decision-making.

“When Kane Williamson was made the captain later, it means franchise was not happy with him, the way he was making the decisions,” added Irfan Pathan.

The SRH management stated they relieved David Warner of his duties as they wanted to go with an overseas all-rounder. With Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson in good form, they did not have any other option but to leave David Warner out of their playing XI and thereby change the captain as well.

With 5447 runs, David Warner is fifth on the list of the leading run-getters in the IPL and the highest run-getter among overseas players. With 50 half-centuries, he has the maximum fifties in the IPL history and he is the only player to have won the Orange Cap a record three times – in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

Irfan Pathan: SRH Didn’t Have Any Experienced Middle Order Batsman As Kedar Jadhav Was Ignored

While highlighting the lack of experience in the SRH middle order, Irfan Pathan questioned the decision of not playing Kedar Jadhav in the initial stages of the tournament.

“We always talk about SRH that they don’t have any experienced players in the middle. Kedar Jadhav did not play at the start although he is an experienced player. They played Suchith for a couple of matches and then again dropped him,” said Pathan.

The 36-year-old concluded by stating that the absence of an express pace bowler is also a concern for SRH.

“They will have to improve their combination and they do not have an out-and-out quick bowler, who can consistently bowl around 140 kph and keep performing on flat pitches,” signed off Irfan Pathan.

SRH was also hit hard by injuries to two of their most accomplished seamers. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar missed a couple of matches due to a thigh injury, T Natarajan was ruled out of IPL 2021 after playing just two encounters.

David Warner is not only the top scorer in SRH’s history, the 34-year-old has also led the team to their maiden IPL title (2016). The Australian himself has been in the indifferent form of late and a far cry from the destructive batsman as he had a strike rate of just 110.28 in the IPL 2021 managing 193 runs averaging 32.16 in 6 games.

Kedar Jadhav had scored only 62 runs in 8 games for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020 at a modest average of 20.66 and a strike rate of 93.93 which is poor by T20 standards and he was released by CSK. He managed 40 runs in 4 games averaging 20 in IPL 2021 at a comparatively better strike rate of 125.

The franchise had a disastrous start to their campaign in 2021 losing 6 of their first 7 matches as the Orange Army is languishing at the bottom of the points table when the IPL was suspended indefinitely.

IPL 2021: Pragyan Ojha Reckons Manish Pandey Needs To Take A Break

Pragyan Ojha, former Indian spinner said Manish Pandey has not been delivering as per expectations despite the trust shown in him by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team management in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and a couple of games break can work in his favour.

Speaking to Sports Today, Pragyan Ojha said all-rounder Kedar Jadhav can be a good option for Sunrisers Hyderabad who is lacking experience in the middle-order. SRH slipped to their 3rd straight defeat of the season on Saturday as MI defended 150 in Chennai.

Pragyan Ojha: Manish Pandey Should Take A Break From Next 2 Games

Pragyan Ojha, speaking to Sports Today, pointed out that Manish Pandey might need time to take a backseat and reassess his game to deliver better in IPL 2021 season. Pragyan Ojha’s comments came after Manish Pandey got out early after a good start from David Warner and Jonny Bairstow in SRH’s failed chase of 151 against Mumbai Indians.

Sunrisers Hyderabad slipped to their worst-ever start in an IPL season after losing their first three matches of the new season. Chasing 151 against MI, SRH got off to a solid start with openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow adding 67 runs but the former champions were bundled out for 137.

Manish Pandey, who bats at No. 3 for SRH, began his season with a 44-ball 61 not out but the Karnataka batsman was not able to finish the match in their chase of 188 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Against RCB, his strike rate came under the scanner as he hit 38 off 39 balls as Sunrisers lost by 7 runs while chasing 150 at Chepauk.

“For someone like Manish Pandey, it will be good for him if he gets a couple of games break. At times, it really helps, ” said Pragyan Ojha

Manish Pandey has been a consistent performer for Sunrisers over the years but the senior India batsman has failed to take up responsibility in the middle-order, which lacks experience at the moment. Following Manish Pandey’s exit on Saturday, Sunrisers did not get any momentum going into their innings.

After David Warner was run out in the 12th over, the trio of Virat Singh, Abdul Samad, and Abhishekh Sharma failed to chip in with useful contributions. Vijay Shankar’s 28-ball 26 ended in vain as the all-rounder was not able to take the team past the finish line.

“No. 3, it is a very crucial position. He has to deliver. Match after match, the pressure mounts. People who are watching can make out that Manish Pandey is not delivering. At times, it is important that you take a backseat, take a couple of games break and then think about your game.”

“When you’re playing continuously and you’re not doing well, you might not know what is happening and what is not. You need to take a pause,” Ojha added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad missed the experience of Kane Williamson as the New Zealand captain has not yet completely recovered from an elbow injury. However, David Warner said on Saturday that the senior batsman is close to regaining full fitness. SRH will look to open their account in the new season when they take on Punjab Kings in Chennai on Wednesday.

Pragyan Ojha: Kedhar Jadhav Can Deliver Some Handy Off-Spin And Give Stability In The Batting

Kedar Jadhav had scored only 62 runs in 8 games for Chennai Super Kings at a modest average of 20.66 and a strike rate of 93.93 which is poor by T20 standards and he was released by CSK. Despite playing 87 IPL games, he has an average of only 22.82 and has only 4 fifties. He hasn’t bowled in IPL.

Adding that Sunrisers might benefit if they bring in former Chennai Super Kings player Kedar Jadhav, Ojha said: “You need someone like Kedar Jadhav. If you see that middle-order, it did not carry forward the hard work done by David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.”

“Maybe they can look in for Kedar Jadhav who can deliver because I think they have a few more games in Chennai. He can deliver some handy off-spin and give some stability in the batting,” he added.

In the players’ auction, Hyderabad acquired Kedar Jadhav, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Jagadeesha Suchith to their ranks. The side had bowed out of IPL 2020 in Qualifier 2 last year after suffering a loss against Delhi Capitals. SRH also wanted to bolster their middle-order and so they bought Kedar Jadhav for INR 2 Crores.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman Is An Effective T20 Bowler And Gives Sunrisers Hyderabad Depth: Tom Moody

Tom Moody, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Director of Cricket, has explained the reasoning behind the team securing the services of Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman who was released by Punjab franchise-KXIP(now PBKS) ahead of the new Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) season.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who was bought for 1.5 crores at the IPL 2021 Auction in February, will have compatriots Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi for the company in the team dressing room.

Tom Moody: Mujeeb Ur Rahman Is An Effective T20 Bowler And Gives SRH Depth

Mujeeb Ur Rahman had taken IPL 2018 by storm on his way to picking 14 wickets in 11 matches averaging 20.64 for Kings XI Punjab(now Punjab Kings) at under 7 runs an over. But he wasn’t as fruitful in IPL 2019 where he picked 3 scalps in 5 games and in IPL 2020 where he went wicketless from 2 games before being released by the franchise.

“From the overseas perspective, having Mujeeb there(in the side). He is obviously a very very effective T20 bowler and he has shown that throughout his franchise career and obviously playing for Afghanistan. I think he gives us greater depth and certainly, he is going to keep everyone on their toes to you know try and keep their spot in the eleven,” explained Tom Moody while speaking to SRH.

Tom Moody said the inclusion of Mujeeb Ur Rahman adds more depth to their spin-bowling stocks and his presence will keep everyone on their toes.

SRH decided to add a third Afghanistan spinner into their team as they picked up Mujeeb Ur Rahman for his INR 2 crores base price. According to VVS Laxman, SRH also wanted to bolster their middle-order and so they bought Kedar Jadhav for INR 2 Crores.

SRH already has the likes of spinners Shahbaz Nadeem, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi in their squad, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s addition will provide them further options in their team selection.

Hyderabad acquired Kedar Jadhav, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Jagadeesha Suchith to their ranks. The side had bowed out of IPL 2020 in Qualifier 2 last year after suffering a loss against Delhi Capitals.

In the 2021 IPL auction, SRH was one of the quietest teams and didn’t bid for too many players. Team mentor VVS Laxman later revealed that they were targeting off-spinning all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Krishnappa Gowtham, but couldn’t afford the duo.

Rashid Khan Is SRH’s Another Afghanistan Spinner And Will Lead Spin Attack

SRH caught everyone by surprise and raised a few eyebrows after purchasing another spinner with Rashid Khan already in the ranks. While Rashid Khan is expected to continue leading the spin attack for the Hyderabad outfit, Mujeeb Ur Rahman is only likely to feature in a limited number of games.

However, the purchase does become a lot more understandable upon realizing that SRH will play a combined nine games in Chennai and Delhi. Both pitches are spin-friendly and could tempt the ‘Orange Army’ to play two quality, overseas spinners.

The 20-year-old bowler will be featuring in his fourth IPL. Mujeeb Ur Rahman had taken his debut season-IPL 2018 by storm on his way to picking 14 wickets in 11 matches at under 7 runs an over. In his nascent 17-match IPL career, he has picked up 18 wickets averaging 33.11.

He turned for erstwhile Kings XI Punjab–now Punjab Kings– from IPL 2018-IPL 2020 but only got to play two matches in IPL 2020. SRH begins its campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11.

SRH’s squad for IPL 2021: David Warner, Kane Williamson, Virat Singh, Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Wriddhiman Saha, Jonny Bairstow, Sreevats Goswami, Vijay Shankar, Mitchell Marsh, Mohammad Nabi, Jason Holder, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul, Basil Thampi, Shahbaz Nadeem, Kedar Jadhav, Jagadeesha Suchith, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

SRH Probable XI: David Warner(c), Wriddhiman Saha(wk), Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shahbaz Nadeem, T Natarajan.

Virat Kohli Is Easily Approachable And Keeps Stardom Aside: Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha, India wicketkeeper-batsman has commended India captain Virat Kohli for being approachable in a recent interview. He also revealed that while Virat Kohli is approachable, some of the stalwarts of the game weren’t when he first joined the Indian team.

Wriddhiman Saha opened up about Virat Kohli’s dressing room behavior when he was asked about his India seniors and teammates.

Wriddhiman Saha: Virat Kohli Is Easily Approachable

36-year-old Wriddhiman Saha was the first cricketer to score a century in an Indian Premier League final. He currently plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League since 2018 after representing KKR, CSK, and KXIP. He debuted in 2010 and played 38 Tests and 9 ODIs for India. He was effusive in his praise for Virat Kohli.

“In the dressing room, he is one of us. When I joined the team years ago, I saw all the stalwarts. I was a junior then and it wasn’t always easy to approach them. It is very easy to access Kohli. He keeps his stardom aside when he is with his fellow teammates,” Wriddhiman Saha told the Times of India.

Wriddhiman Saha also recollected the time he was given his India cap by Sachin Tendulkar.

“When I debuted, there were Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and many other legends in the team, along with Sachin. It was Sachin who gave me his cap – the debut cap. That way, he will always remain very special to me.”

After staying on the sidelines during the MS Dhoni revolution, he was called up to the national side in 2010, when he was surprisingly picked as reserve wicket-keeper for the home series against the Proteas. He impressed after MS Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket in December 2014, more so as a keeper than as a batsman.

Impressing with his quick reflexes and acrobatic wicket-keeping skills he has now become the regular keeper in Tests but is facing stiff competition from Rishabh Pant who is improving both as batsman and keeper.

Wriddhiman Saha Hasn’t Been Regularly Playing For SRH In IPL 2019-2020

In IPL 2021, Wriddhiman Saha will be plying his trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The wicketkeeper-batsman has joined their camp in Chennai and is expected to resume training after serving his quarantine period.

During the interview, Wriddhiman Saha also shared insights into traveling and playing during these tough times, saying : “It’s not easy. Now that I will join my team, I will have to stay isolated for a week. There will be three COVID-19 tests conducted back-to-back on the second, fifth and seventh day. Once we clear that, we will be able to meet, greet and start our practice together.”

In the last two years, Wriddhiman Saha hasn’t been a regular feature in the SRH playing XI. He featured in five games in 2019 and another four in 2020. Even though he performed decently in the opportunities that he got, accommodating him in the team has been tough given the extreme competition for places.

He has played 124 IPL games since debuting in IPL’s inaugural year 2008 and is nearing 2000 runs averaging around 25. He hit a ton which went in vain in IPL 2014 final.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will start their Indian Premier League 2021 campaign against fellow former champions Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on 11 April, in what will be the third match of the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad, which released the least number-5 players ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, also bought the least number-3 players during the mini-auction. With Rs. 10.75 salary cap available for them, Sunrisers Hyderabad had the minimum budget.

With most of their earlier players retained, SRH went ahead to buy Kedar Jadhav for Rs. 2 crores. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman was Sunriser Hyderabad’s second purchase, whom they bought for Rs. 1.5 crore. The David Warner-led team had only one spot available for an overseas player, and they went ahead with buying the Afghanistan spinner. Jagadeesha Suchith was the third cricketer on which Hyderabad invested their money, buying the Indian bowler for Rs. 30 lakh.

Kedar Jadhav Will Strengthen SRH’s Middle Order: VVS Laxman

VVS Laxman, SunRisers Hyderabad mentor said the addition of Kedar Jadhav will strengthen their middle-order in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

SunRisers Hyderabad went into the Indian Premier League 2021 auctions with a set mindset as they wanted to pick specific players to provide balance to the squad.

VVS Laxman: Kedar Jadhav’s Experience Will Strengthen SunRisers Hyderabad’s Middle Order

SRH decided to add a third Afghanistan spinner into their team as they picked up Mujeeb Ur Rahman for his 2 crore base price. According to VVS Laxman, SRH also wanted to bolster their middle-order and so they bought Kedar Jadhav for INR 2 Crores. SRH already has the likes of Shahbaz Nadeem, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi in their squad, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s addition will provide them further options in their team selection.

VVS Laxman said the addition of Kedar Jadhav will strengthen their batting besides the fact that he can bowl a handful of overs. In the players’ auction held on Thursday, Hyderabad acquired Kedar Jadhav, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Jagadeesha Suchith to their ranks. The side had bowed out of IPL 2020 in Qualifier 2 last year after suffering a loss against Delhi Capitals.

“Mujeeb is an experienced IPL bowler and there is a mystery to his bowling style. The other option for us was an overseas fast bowler, we felt with our fast bowling options available and the Indian talent available, we thought it would be better for us if we have a mystery spinner in our squad as it strengths our spin bowling department,” said VVS Laxman while replying to ANI query during a virtual press conference on Thursday.

Kedar Jadhav had scored only 62 runs in 8 games for Chennai Super Kings at a modest average of 20.66 and a strike rate of 93.93 which is poor by T20 standards and he was released by CSK. Despite playing only 87 IPL games, he has an average of only 22.82 and has only 4 fifties. He hasn’t bowled in IPL.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has played 18 IPL games and picked 17 scalps averaging 33.11. He failed to pick a wicket in IPL 2020 despite featuring in 2 games and was released by Punjab Kings.

Chris Morris Becomes Most Expensive Foreign Player In The History Of The IPL

The IPL “mini-auction” this year has 291 players going under the hammer as England pacer Mark Wood withdrew from the auction at the end moment. All these cricketers have been shortlisted by the eight franchises. A total of 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players, and 3 players from associate nations are up for grabs in the mini-auction.

The Australian skipper scored 311 runs from 14 games in the last season as the franchise finished last-eighth in the points table in extremely competitive IPL 2020.

“His contract expired in 2020 and we have decided not to renew it. Steve Smith has had a huge contribution but we had to take a call after much deliberation,” the official said.

Sanju Samson has been named as the new captain of Rajasthan Royals. There were speculations that the franchise could part ways with its head coach Andrew McDonald, but this publication understands that the Australian will continue as the head coach. Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson scored 375 runs from 14 games averaging 28.84 with 3 fifties in IPL 2020.

Glenn Maxwell, Kedar Jadhav, Aaron Finch, Moeen Ali, Chris Morris, Tom Banton Among Players Released By Respective Franchises

One of the biggest mainstays in T20 Cricket. Glenn Maxwell has been released from KXIP. The Australian scored just 108 runs in 13 matches. Glenn Maxwell, Sheldon Cottrell, K Gowtham, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Jimmy Neesham & Karun Nair are players who are released from Punjab. Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Piyush Chawla have been released from CSK while the players retained are Suresh Raina, Faf Du Plessis & Dwayne Bravo. SunRisers Hyderabad released Billy Stanlake, Fabian Allen among others.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Ab De Villiers and Yuzvendra Chahal will be seen for RCB this season. Kolkata Knight Riders have also decided to part ways with flamboyant English opener Tom Banton after buying him in IPL 2019 auction pool. IPL 2020: MS Dhoni’s Break Saw Rustiness Creeping In – Kris Srikkanth

MS Dhoni was expected to perform in IPL 2020, but the break saw rustiness to creep in according to Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the former Indian opener and captain who feels that gap between the 2019 ODI World Cup and IPL harmed Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a batsman.

MS Dhoni himself went on leave after semi-final defeat in 2019 World Cup to New Zealand before the coronavirus pandemic affected the globe resulting in cancellations and postponements of various tournaments including IPL.

MS Dhoni’s Record As White Ball Batsman Second To None: Kris Srikkanth

MS Dhoni retired through an Instagram post on 15th August from international cricket. Still, she continued to lead CSK, but CSK are now placed bottom of the points table after suffering as many as eight losses in 11 matches meaning the chance to qualify for playoffs are virtually over and almost impossible.

In his column for the Times of India, Srikkanth wrote, “A lot of time and energy has been spent on discussing Dhoni’s approach as a batsman and strategies he adopted as captain in the ongoing league. The world has come to expect a lot from the veteran and rightly so.

“His record as a white ball batsman and captain is second to none. In my opinion, the break from the World Cup in 2019 to this IPL allowed some rustiness to creep in. The script could have been different had the tournament happened in April.”

MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni (Image Credit: Twitter)

MS Dhoni’s team suffered a massive 10-wicket loss in Friday’s clash against Mumbai Indians which was their worst defeat as they could manage only 114/9 which even looked impossible at one stage as they were 4 wickets down scoring only 3 runs.

“I have seen many great batsmen get in to a rut and unless you possess the greatest of technique, the best way to come back to form is to take an aggressive approach. Dhoni should have played like the Dhoni of old, where he was fearless and attacking.

“He never allowed the bowler to dictate terms; unfortunately he allowed the bowlers to gain an upper hand in almost every innings this season. As far Dhoni’s tactics as captain goes, I didn’t really understand why he refused to play the youngsters in the side.” Srikkanth added.

MS Dhoni constantly backed out of form Kedar Jadhav who scored less than run a ball accumulating 62 runs only in 8 matches and Piyush Chawla who leaked runs at a staggering rate of more than 9 per over. MS Dhoni managed only 180 runs in 11 matches averaging 25.71.

MS Dhoni Should Have Backed Uncapped Indian Talent: Kris Srikkanth

MS Dhoni, one of the game’s best finishers who took more than a year off after India’s elimination from the World Cup in 2019, has been extremely criticized for his go-slow approach this season.

“The biggest win for Dhoni the leader was the 2013 Champions Trophy. The manner in which he shaped that young side to become world-beaters was probably his high point as a leader. I expected the same from him in UAE but he chose otherwise. All other teams have done better by backing their uncapped Indian talent. ” Srikkanth concluded.

KM Asif, Ravi Rai Kishore and Monu Kumar were uncapped cricketers who weren’t given a single chance. In contrast, veteran last year’s purple cap winner and maximum wicket-taker Imran Tahir was given a chance in the last match against Mumbai Indians after being kept out for the first 10 matches.

Mitchell Santner wasn’t given a chance while Lungi Ngidi played only two matches but was in the bench for the remaining matches. The backing of out of form Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay and Piyush Chawla backfired and Ruturaj Gaikwad and injured Dwayne Bravo had an offseason.

Pragyan Ojha: MS Dhoni’s Messages Are Cryptic

Pragyan Ojha, former Indian spinner who also represented various IPL franchises on Tuesday reacted to MS Dhoni’s “did not see the spark in some of our youngsters” comment and pointed out that the CSK skipper must have spoken about Kedar Jadhav.

Pragyan Ojha said that if MS Dhoni’s ‘youngster spark comment’ was directed at young CSK players like 23 year old Rituraj Gaekwad and 24 year old Narayan Jagadeesan then it is unfair since both have got limited opportunities to prove themselves.

Pragyan Ojha: MS Dhoni’s Messages Are Cryptic

However, Pragyan Ojha also said MS Dhoni’s messages are cryptic as he was probably pointing to 35-year-old Kedar Jadhav and 31-year-old Piyush Chawla for non-performance and he was very sure that the CSK skipper will never comment on the two young players.

MS Dhoni said the Chennai Super Kings’ youngsters didn’t show enough spark for them to push the senior players out of the team but also confirmed that the younger players will be given chances in the forthcoming games.

“It’s fair enough [the criticism for not playing youngsters], this season we weren’t there. Maybe we didn’t see as much spark from some of our youngsters. Maybe going forward we bring them in and they play without pressure,” MS Dhoni had said.

“Who is the youngster? If he is referring to himself as senior players and he is talking about. Did he mention Ruturaj and Jagadeesan? He must have spoken about Kedar. What I have seen of MS Dhoni is that his messages are very very cryptic,” Pragyan Ojha told Sports Today.

Batsman Rituraj Gaekwad had played only 2 matches scoring 5 runs while Narayan Jagadeesan has featured in only 1 match scoring 33 runs off 28 balls. Other guys like KM Asif have played only 2 matches picking up 3 wickets in an earlier edition of IPL and Ravi Sai Kishore and Monu Kumar are yet to debut.

Pragyan Ojha Is Sure That MS Dhoni Is Not Talking About Narayan Jagadeesan And Rituraj Gaekwad Since Both Have Featured In A Few Matches

CSK are at the bottom of the points table with batsmen like Murali Vijay scoring only 32 runs in 3 matches and Kedar Jadhav scoring only 62 runs in 8 appearances. Moreover, fans have questioned the team’s selection policies with both spinners Imran Tahir and Mitchell Santner not getting a single chance along with pacer Lungi Ngidi who picked 4 wickets in 2 games averaging 23.5.

“I am very sure he will never comment on these two young boys. Why will I comment on a player who has played one game? I want to go more deeply into this. If it is about those two guys (Ruturaj and Jagadeesan) then I don’t back it for sure. But what if he is talking about Piyush Chawla, he is talking about others.”

Rituraj Gaikwad

“I am very sure he is not talking about these two boys because they have just played two games. How can you judge anybody with 1 or 2 games? That will be very unfair. If the statement is about those two boys then it is unfair,” Ojha added.

RR’s victory pushed CSK at the bottom of the IPL 2020 points table. Chennai are at a position where one more defeat can end their playoff hopes and they will also depend upon outcomes of other matches.

IPL 2020: MS Dhoni’s Comments Criticised By Kris Srikkanth

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai Super Kings, was criticized by former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth for his comment that he did not see a spark in some of CSK’s youngsters present in the d after the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and questioned the inclusion of players like Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla who have failed to perform repeatedly in the playing XI of the squad.

After CSK lost their match to Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets on Monday, MS Dhoni, during the post-match presentation ceremony, said that youngsters were not given a chance in the first 10 matches for CSK because they lacked spark in them. CSK managed only 125/5 which Rajasthan Royals overcame after Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 70.

MS Dhoni: Didn’t See As Much Spark From Some Of CSK’s Youngsters.

The 39-year-old MS Dhoni said that he would like to give an opportunity to youngsters in the forthcoming matches as they will be under less pressure since the chance of qualifying for playoffs is almost gone.

But it was a surprising comment considering the youngsters could have given CSK chance to stay in the race for playoffs by good performance. MS Dhoni asserted that minimal pressure would help the youngsters perform better.

“It’s fair enough [the criticism for not playing youngsters], this season we weren’t there. Maybe we didn’t see as much spark from some of our youngsters. Maybe going forward we bring them in and they play without pressure,” MS Dhoni had said.

Kris Srikkanth reacted sharply and criticized MS Dhoni for his comments while speaking to Star Sports Tamil, saying that MS Dhoni undoubtedly is a “great cricketer”, ut he won’t accept his views and is against CSK’s selection policies after their defeat to RR.

The 60-year-old slammed Dhoni’s “believing in the process” comment as well and said, “I won’t accept what Dhoni is saying. This talk of process, process… I won’t agree with that. You’re talking about process, but the process of selection itself is wrong.”

The 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer questioned the presence of Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla in the playing XI of CSK. Kedar Jadhav has repeatedly failed to perform with the for CSK and have managed to score only 62 runs from his 8 IPL 2020 matches at a strike rate of only 93.94 which is unacceptable in T20. Piyush Chawla, on the other hand, have leaked runs at an economy rate of 9.1 and has picked only 6 wickets in 7 matches averaging 31.83.

MS Dhoni’s Comments Criticized By Kris Srikkanth

24-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Narayan Jagadeesan was given a chance to prove himself against RCB, and he responded by scoring 33 runs off 28 balls. Kris Srikkanth used young Narayan Jagadeesan’s case to prove his case against MS Dhoni’s post-match comments. But Narayan Jagadeesan was not picked in next matches against Delhi, Hyderabad and Rajasthan and a player like Kedar Jadhav was given a chance.

“A guy like Jagadeesan… you’re saying youngsters don’t have spark, does Kedar Jadhav have spark? Did Piyush Chawla show spark? Come on, this is all ridiculous, I will not accept his answers today. By going on and on about the process, CSK’s tournament is going to end.”

“By saying that they will give opportunities from now to youngsters… come on, Jagadeesan showed some spark. At least Karn Sharma was getting wickets even if he was expensive.

“Piyush Chawla was brought into the attack after the match was done and dusted. Dhoni is a great cricketer, there is no doubt about that but I won’t accept him saying that the ball didn’t grip. I won’t accept that,” Kris Srikkanth added.

Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings who have qualified for playoffs every season are now the bottom-ranked in the 8-team IPL 2020 points table with only 3 wins and as many as 7 losses having 6 points in 10 matches.

CSK are without Suresh Raina, and Harbhajan Singh both of whom opted out, and replacements haven’t been made either. To make matters worse, all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is ruled out due to injury. He missed a few matches initially due to injury but played some matches before injury struck again.

Kedar Jadhav’s Replacements

CSK does not have many options to replace the underperformers after their batting mainstay Suresh Raina opted out even before the commencement of the tournament.
