ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli Unveils India’s Away Jersey for England Game; Rates it Eight Out of Ten

On the eve of England-India game at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the Men in Blue skipper Virat Kohli has unveiled the newly-released away jersey which India will don against the Three Lions in the match No. 38 of the ICC World Cup 2019.

Kohli, who has had enjoyed the colour combination, believes India’s colour has been blue, but it’s right on this part to witness a change. The jersey which Nike released has orange on the sleeves apart from the back portion.

Interestingly, Kohli walked alongside a kid who has surprised everybody. The exciting kid caught hold of the mic to introduce the star batsman.

“Hello everyone. We’re the Playground Pundits, and we’re taking over tomorrow’s match to help raise money for children. I’m Edward, and I’ll be your media manager for today. I’m very excited to introduce India’s captain Virat Kohli,” a young kid said in a press-conference room.

Kohli partook in the initiative of ‘OneDay4Children’ which is set up for helping children in the fundraising campaign.

In 2009, India sported dark blue, and that had a shade of orange colour.

However, the orange-dominated jersey has dark blue colour on the front part, which has pleased Kohli.

Also, excited Kohli has given eight points out of ten—to the jersey for its design.

Ahead of the game while speaking to media, Kohli maintained it’s a nice jersey. He is further impressed with the contrast of one-time jersey. And Kohli didn’t shy away from admitting that he likes the jersey, as well as the concept behind it.

“I quite like it. For me, it’s right up there. For me, it would be an 8. Honestly, I’m not saying it for the sake of it. I really like it because it looks nice. The contrast is really nice. So I quite like it. The fit is great. It’s a nice change,” Kohli said.

Earlier, the concept of home and away jerseys was adopted by football before it got the introduction in the domestic professional league.

Kohli also added the light blue had been their colour. He further maintained they as a player are proud to wear their jersey.

“For one game, it’s fine. I don’t think permanently we’ll be heading in that direction because blue has always been our colour, and we’re very proud to wear that. Yeah, for a change and looking at the occasion, I think it’s a very, very smart kit,” Kohli added.

Recently, the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a change by calling for the introduction of away kit. Also, England dons a light blue jersey in the home-bound competition.

In between, the orange-dominated jersey has also witnessed Prime Minister Narendra Modi being accused of the saffron hue for the latest kit. With a mixed reaction on Twitter, the newest jersey further drew flak for its combination.

With most of the teams using their secondary kit, Bangladesh may don the red outfit on Friday (July 5) against Pakistan.

Recently, South Africa-led by Faf du Plessis donned a gold-dominated jersey with Sri Lanka sporting a jersey having shades of yellow.
