India have made a thumping start to their ICC World Cup 2019 winning five of the six games so far while one ended in a washout. They recently spoiled the party of West Indies’ party beating them by 125 runs at the Old Trafford. However, the last two matches have raised questions on MS Dhoni’s style of batting where he has failed to get going in the middle overs. But he has got an ally in former cricketer VVS Laxman, who has said that India is lucky to have him in the dressing room.

Laxman backs struggling MS Dhoni

Dhoni played a 28-run inning off 52 balls against Afghanistan on June 22. During West Indies clash at Manchester, he started slow but shifted gears as the game progressed and played some shots at the end. The former captain scored 56* runs from 61 balls which helped India post 268 runs to secure a 125-run win. His slow innings have attracted a lot of criticism including Sachin Tendulkar calling out his intensity in the middle overs.

But VVS Laxman has extended his support to MS Dhoni saying that he has the experience and the required game experience. He also said that the Indian team is lucky to have a cricketer like Dhoni in their dressing room.

“He (Dhoni) is the most experienced player and he always had the game-awareness. Dhoni is a kind of player who shares his knowledge with the youngsters. Not only batsmen, but bowlers also get benefit from Dhoni when they have a conversation. I think team India is very lucky to have MS Dhoni in the dressing room,” Laxman told ANI.

India will want MS Dhoni to hit the strides in the next game against England on June 30 at Edgbaston. In conclusion, VVS Laxman also praised skipper Virat Kohli for continuing the stupendous form in the World Cup.
