West Indies will begin their WT20 2016 journey against England at Mumbai on Wednesday. The 2012 WT20 champions (West Indies) will play against the 2010 WT20 champions (England) in the Group 1 encounter of Super 10 stage.
At present, West Indies cricket team is seriously struggling to concentrate into the international cricket due to the long-running off-field collide between players and board members. However, West Indies team is still enough strong in T20I cricket.
Since the end of World T20 2014, West Indies have played 8 T20Is out of which they have won 4 T20Is, lost 3 T20Is and the other 1 T20I failed to produce a result.
Just ahead of WT20, West Indies achieved a victory against Australia in the WT20 2016 warm-up matches which will give a boost to the Caribbean team. However, they suffered a defeat against India in another WT20 2016 warm-up game, just before the Australia match.
Batting is the biggest strength of West Indies team in T20I cricket. Despite non-presence of Kieron Pollard, Lendl Simmons; West Indies team has enough power-hitters in their batting line-up to destroy any other opponents. The batsmen like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell etc. can destroy single-handedly any opponent team on their day. In addition, most of West Indies batsmen have familiar with Indian pitches due to regularly playing in IPL (Indian Premier League).
On the other hand, in the absence of off-spinner Sunil Narine, West Indies team’s bowling strength got a question mark due to the inconsistent form of the other bowlers.
West Indies has never lost against England in WT20. West Indies has achieved victory in all the 3 meetings against England in WT20. On the other hand, West Indies has claimed 8 wins against England in T20I out of 12 meetings while other 4 T20Is were won by England.
In their WT20 2016 opening game, West Indies will go to take England with their best XI. West Indies has very well pace all-rounders which can give them an extra advantage in the WT20 matches.
The Mumbai pitch always helps the spinners. Adding this, England batsmen always struggle against the leg-spinners, so the leg-spinner Samuel Badree may enter in the XI men squad while it can be surely assumed that the inform left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn will play as the main spinner in the squad.
West Indies predicted XI: Darren Sammy (captain), Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, Sulieman Benn, Samuel Badree.
