IND VS AUS 2023: It Wasn’t My Finest Moment- Steve Smith Ahead Of Leading Australia For The Third Test Match

IND VS AUS 2023: Australia is trailing in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) by 0-2 against India, Men in Blue has already won the BGT for straight four times with the last test match victory. Steve Smith will be leading the Baggy Greens for the third test in the absence of Pat Cummins, the tall pacer returned home due to his mother’s illness.

Smith in his recent statement expressed his anger for getting dismissed by R Ashwin in the second test match at Delhi, he was playing the sweep shot in the second innings and was given out LBW.

Smith admitted the anger he felt after getting dismissed by R.Ashwin in the BGT-

I’ve played 95 [94] Test matches…and I don’t think there’s been too many times I’ve walked off the field and I’ve gone, ‘what the hell am I doing?’ I was pretty angry,” said the right-handed batter.

There hasn’t been too many times in my career where I’ve actually come off and just been bedazzled by what I’ve done. It wasn’t my finest moment,” he further added.

The 33- year old is the joint record holder for most tons in BGT along with Sachin Tendulkar’s nine century. Ashwin dismissed the star Australian batter on both occasions of the Delhi test match, Indian off-spinner dismissed Smith’s total eight times in the longer format of the game.

It wasn’t the way I wanted to play, particularly when I had the field set, for all of us actually, they had the field out. We probably just rushed things a little bit and it’s something we’ll talk about when we meet [on Wednesday]. When we’ve got them on the ropes, we can slow things down,” said Smith

We don’t have to play at such a high tempo and risky tempo. Because we had them where we wanted them, we had men out and the ability to get off strike. We just rushed it,” he concluded.

Australian side has to avoid a clean sweep in the four-test match series to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) final. While Rohit Sharma-led side will qualify for the WTC final if they win the series by 3-1, India will take on Australia for the third test match at Indore on 1st March.
