India captain Rohit Sharma received amazing praise from coach Rahul Dravid for his leadership skills after India defeated Australia by 6 wickets in the second Test in Delhi of the four-match series. With this victory, India also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
This was the fourth consecutive win for Rohit Sharma after taking over as Test captain from Virat Kohli last year and he became only the second Indian captain to achieve this feat after MS Dhoni. Rahul Dravid hailed Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and said that he has the respect of the entire dressing room.
Sharma’s captaincy came to the fore in the second Test and earned the praise of Dravid as he helped the bowlers with field settings as Australia slipped from 61/1 to 113 all out on the third day.
“I think he has been brilliant. He has the respect of the dressing room. He is one of those guys who has been there a long time. The kind of person who doesn’t speak a lot, but when he does they all listen. He deeply cares a lot about the dressing room and the players. We are very lucky to have Rohit take over the leadership from someone like Virat,” said Dravid on broadcasters.
He’s A Good Old Fashioned Test Batsman: Rahul Dravid Lauds Rohit Sharma’s Batting
Dravid also praised Sharma’s batting and said that he comes across as a good old-fashioned Test batter. Rohit has been in good form in these Tests as he scored 120 in the Nagpur match and scored 32 and 31 in the two innings in Delhi and looked uber comfortable against the Australian spinners.
“He’s a Bombay basher that’s grown up in the maidans. I feel he’s unlucky to get himself injured. He wasn’t there for the Test matches in South Africa and England. But he comes across as a good old-fashioned Test batsman,” said Dravid.
Sharma will have the chance to win his first Border-Gavaskar trophy as captain in Indore when the third Test starts on 1st March.
