Virat Kohli, on Saturday (March 11), finally ended his drought in Tests with a timely fifty for the team in the ongoing fourth Test between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The former India skipper has  been going through a lean patch in Tests for quite some time now. He has not scored a Test century in the longest format of the game since 2019. His last century in Tests came against Bangladesh during the Eden Gardens Test almost 4 years ago.

Such has been his form in recent months that prior to the ongoing game, he had not scored a fifty in Tests since January 2022. Virat Kohli’s last fifty in Tests had come against South Africa in January last year during the Cape Town Test.

Virat Kohli finally scored a fifty in Tests when India needed him to deliver in the ongoing Test. It is also his first fifty in Tests under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.  Virat Kohli walked out to bat when India were comfortably placed at 87 for 2. He and Shubman Gill shared 58 runs for the third wicket before Nathan Lyon dismissed the latter for 128.

Prior to the fifty, Kohli had not managed to cross the 50-run mark in 16 innings which is the longest stretch without a 50+ score in his career.

Talking about the ongoing game, India were on 284 for 3 at the time of writing this report. Kohli was batting on 57 while Ravindra Jadeja was giving him company on 13. Earlier in the game, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green scored centuries to guide Australia to a huge total of 480.
