The 13th edition of the ICC One-Day International World Cup will be held in India in 2023, with England serving as the defending champions. The marquee is set to begin in October of this year. Men in Blue are set to prepare for the event amid all injury concerns.
India vs Australia (IND VS AUS) will clash in the ODI series, starting from March 17 for the first of three 50-over format games. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 50 overs format after he faced a back pain issue in the last Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 at Ahmedabad. Team India won the BGT 2023, by a 2-1 margin.
Indian team source reveals to Times Of India (TOI) about the new plan-
“How does one expect to play with a core group when the primary players are breaking down despite such thorough workload management? The issue is being raised with NCA. The team management and the selectors are back to creating a set of backup players now. There has to be someone accountable for this,” he stated while speaking to TOI.
The right-handed batsman did not come out to bat in India’s first innings after complaining about pain in his lower back following the conclusion of the third day of the Test. On Day 4, he was taken to the hospital for scans. He doesn’t field in the remainder of the Test match.
“These injuries that are happening now are serious ones. They would require much time to recover and be back in full flow. Making a settled team has become a challenge. The NCA has taken charge of ‘targeted’ and ’emerging’ players on the state sides,”
“To have a situation where you play these players directly in big tournaments could be better. The selectors were still fine with Bumrah even playing directly in the World Cup, but to have a group of such players is unpleasant,” he further added.
Series W 🇮🇳 Onto the WTC final ✌️Gutted to have missed out on the last few days but I’ll return stronger. Thank you for all the messages 🤗 pic.twitter.com/Td9M5qScBM

Jasprit Bumrah is still not sure about his return and has been in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for the last six months, the academy has been under the scanner for its tacky injury management, especially from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Iyer played the just-concluded BGT 2023, only to have the back pain return, as his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 stint with former two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the skipper is uncertain.
India will host the ODI WC 2023 solely for the first time, it has organized the tournament in the past but with multiple other countries. The Marquee tournament is expected to begin in October this year.
