Uncapped Test player Shubman Gill enters to the Indian Test team
The selectors have maintained almost the same Test squad that recently toured in West Indies. Only the uncapped Test player Shubman Gill has entered in this squad as a replacement of KL Rahul. Meanwhile, the fast bowler Umesh Yadav has missed out the Test squad who was present during the Caribbean tour but didn’t play a match.
For a long time, KL Rahul is struggling to perform in Test cricket. So, Rahul’s exclusion was expected from the Test squad.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has impressed with his consistent performances in domestic cricket and for India A.
After the conclusion of three-match T20I series, India and South Africa will play the three-match Test series between 2nd October and 23rd October 2019. Vishakhapatnam will host the first Test from 2nd October and then they will play the next two Tests at Pune (10th-14th October) and Ranchi (19th-23rd October).
This upcoming Test series will be the part of inaugural ICC World Test Championship (2019-21). In this Championship, while the upcoming Test series will be India’s second Test series, South Africa will play their first Test series. At present, India is leading the points table of this Championship with 120 points.
In their previous two-match Test series against Windies in the Caribbean soil, India won both those Test matches.
The each game-winner during the India-South Africa Test series will earn 40 points. On the other hand, both teams will earn 20 points for each tie and 13 points for each draw.
