While many cricket experts and former cricketers are in doubt about India’s chances to win in the Test series without Virat Kohli, Harbhajan Singh is confident that the Men in Blue can be dominant against Australia. He reckons that India is the team that can beat any team in any country.
On the special episode of India Today e-Inspiration, Harbhajan Singh said that India has the potential to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy. The veteran spinner admitted that the skipper’s absence would be a big challenge for Team India. But he stated that apart from Kohli, the team has big names in the batting department like Cheteswar Pujara, who starred in last year’s win. He heaped praise on the bowling lineup, stating that they can get 20 wickets.
“This team has got enough power to retain the trophy. They played brilliant cricket last time they were in Australia, Virat Kohli was absolutely brilliant and so was Pujara.
“We hardly hear his name because he is always under the shadow of the big players but Pujara’s contribution was big. It’s going to be a big challenge without Virat Kohli, but I still feel the Indian team has got that kind of a batting lineup and also the bowling, which has been a key factor for them… they can get those 20 wickets.
Harbhajan Singh is assertive that the current Indian team can beat Australia on their soil even with the presence of their two batting mainstay David Warner and Steve Smith.
“They have got the team to beat Australia in Australia even with David Warner and Steve Smith,” Harbhajan said.
India has the edge over Australia: Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh concluded that India has the edge over the Yellow Army because they have got the mindset of winning while also have played quality cricket during the IPL 2020 just before the tour.
“The series will start from even but I would give the edge to India because they have got the team to play in any condition, be it in Australia or England, they have got the mindset.
Both teams haven’t played a lot of quality cricket because of the pandemic year. But Indian cricketers have gone there right after the IPL which will give them some sort of an edge over the Aussies,” Bhajji said.
Well, India is already training in Sydney with captain Virat Kohli. He will be with the team during the white-ball series, comprising three-match ODI as well T20I, while also play the first Test match of the four-match series. He is expecting the birth of his first child thus has taken paternity leave.
