The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal has confirmed that the Indian team is ready to travel to Sri Lanka for limited-overs series. The Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) has offered India to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in July, provided if the visitors are ready to follow quarantine rules.

Sri Lanka cricket had recently written to the BCCI for the bilateral series if their government allows them to travel to the island nation. India and Sri Lanka have always shared good cricketing relations and the latter had also offered to host the Indian Premier League recently. Both teams are known to play against each other frequently.

It is not going to be easy: BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal

It is well known that BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal had lately said that the bilateral white ball series will be the need of the hour for every cricket board in place of the ICC tournaments and Test matches. It would be done so to make up for the monetary losses the boards are suffering due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“It all depends on government directives pertaining to lockdown relaxations and travel restrictions. We are open to travel if it doesn’t compromise the safety and health of our boys,” treasurer Arun Dhumal said.

There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the current situation and it would be interesting to note how the Indian board will deal with it. A lot of precautions would have to be taken before the BCCI can think of putting their players back on the ground.

At the same time, BCCI also needs to take into consideration the financial losses it is suffering. Sourav Ganguly, board’s President, revealed yesterday (15 May) that they will suffer a loss of INR 4000 crores if the IPL doesn’t happen. If it is the case, then they will have to cut down their player’s salaries.
