Recently, the Cricket Australia (CA) has claimed that they are trying to discuss with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to add one more Test in the forthcoming India tour of Australia to make it the five-match Test series. However, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly feels that the five-match Test series is not possible for the upcoming India tour of Australia.
According to the FTP schedule, India will tour in Australia in late this year to play the three-match T20I series, three-match ODI series and four-match Test series along with participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic, the fate of the upcoming T20 World Cup is strongly doubtful, where a total of 16 teams will participate. However, many are highly hopeful for the India tour of Australia in the forthcoming summer.
Recently, the CA chief executive Kevin Roberts claimed that they are trying everything to successfully hosting the Indian team in the upcoming summer. He also hasn’t ruled out the possibilities of five-match home Test series against India.
I don’t think it will be possible for India to participate in five Tests: Sourav Ganguly
However, Sourav Ganguly feels that it is not possible to play the five-match Test series in the upcoming Australia tour due to the limited-overs matches and also maintaining the 14-day quarantine guidelines.
Ganguly said according to Mid-day, “I don’t think it will be possible for India to participate in five Tests. There will be limited-overs games and plus we have to consider the 14-day quarantine guidelines. All this will extend the tour.”
In the India tour of Australia, the Test series will be the part of the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship. On the other hand, the ODI series between them will also be part of the 2020–22 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
After the Sydney ODI between Australia and New Zealand on 13th March 2020, no international cricket matches have been played till the date. There is also no assurance about the resumption of international cricket.
