International cricket family which carried up to 3 generation

In the cricket world, there are many cricketing families where cricket is played for a generation or two. But till today, it is very rare that 3 generations have played international cricket in a family. Today will shortly discuss on this topic.

We bring you the the five families who can proudly claim International cricketers who span across 3 generations.  

George Headley, Ron Headley, Dean Headley

George Headley was the father of Ron Headley and Ron Headley is the father of Dean Headley. George and Ron had played for West Indies in the international cricket while Dean played for England.

George Headley
George Headley

George Headley was famous batsman for West Indies. He had played 22 Tests between 1930 and 1954. His international career average was 60.83 (scored 2190 runs in his Test career). George was known as “Black Bradman” for his batting.

Ron Headley
Ron Headley

Ron Headley, son of George Headley, had also played for West Indies in 1973. In the very short international career, Ron had played only 2 Tests and 1 ODI for Caribbean islands’ team, where he had scored 62 runs and 19 runs respectively. Ron was an opening batsman and had a long career in domestic cricket.

Dean Headley

Dean Headley is son of Ron Headley and grand-son of George Headley. Unlike his father and grand-father, Dean played 15 Tests and 13 ODIs for England from 1996 to 1999. He was a right-arm pacer for England who took 60 wickets in Tests and 11 wickets in ODIs.

Jahangir Khan, Majid Khan, Bazid Khan

Jahangir Khan was father of Majid Khan while Majid Khan is father of Bazid Khan. In the international cricket, Jahangir Khan had served for India while Majid Khan and Bazid Khan had served for Pakistan.

Jahangir Khan had played 4 Tests for India between 1932 and 1936. He was a 6 feet tall right-arm medium pacer, who had picked up 4 wickets. After independence, Jahangir had served as a cricket administrator in Pakistan.

Majid Khan
Majid Khan

Majid Khan is son of Jahangir Khan, who had played for Pakistan. Majid had played 63 Tests and 23 ODIs for Pakistan during 1964-83. Majid was good batsman and also handy bowler. He had scored 3,931 runs in his Test career and 786 runs in ODI career along with picking up 40 international wickets (27 in Tests and 13 in ODIs).

Bazid Khan

Bazid Khan is son of Majid Khan and grand-son of Jahangir Khan. Like his father, Bazid also played for Pakistan in his short international career during 2004-08, where he played only 1 Tests and 5 ODIs as batsman, where he scored 32 runs in the only Test and 131 runs in ODI career.

Apart from these, Baqa Jilani who is a brother-in-law of Jahangir Khan had played his only Test for India. On the other hand, former Pakistan cricketer Javed Burki and former Pakistan WC winning captain Imran Khan are cousin of Majid Khan. Baqa Jilani was uncle of Javed Burki, Imran Khan and Majid Khan.  

Dattaram Hindlekar, Vijay Manjrekar, Sanjay Manjrekar

Dattaram Hindlekar was uncle of Vijay Manjrekar while Vijay Manjrekar was father of Sanjay Manjrekar. All three played for India in international cricket.

Dattaram Hindlekar played for India as wicket-keeper. Dattaram had played only 4 Tests for India during 1936-46, where he had scored 71 runs along with 3 dismissals (3 catches).

Vijay Manjrekar
Vijay Manjrekar

Vijay Manjrekar was nephew of Dattaram Hindlekar, who played for India as a batsman. Vijay played 55 Tests from 1952 to 1965. Vijay Manjrekar scored 3,208 runs in his Test career.

Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar is son of Vijay Manjrekar and great-nephew of Dattaram Hindlekar. Sanjay was an Indian batsman who played 37 Tests and 74 ODIs during 1987 to 1996, where he scored 2,043 runs in Tests and 1,994 runs in ODIs.

Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, KS Duleepsinhji, Ajay Jadeja

Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji was uncle of KS Duleepsinhji and both played for England in international cricket. Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja is great grand-nephew of Duleepsinhji.

India born Ranjitsinhji was a great batsman for England who had played 15 Tests during 1896-1902. In his international career, Ranjitsinhji had scored 989 runs. India’s first-class cricket tournament “Rani Trophy” is named in his honour and was inaugurated in 1935 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala.

KS Duleepsinhji
KS Duleepsinhji

Kumar Duleepsinhji was nephew of Ranjitsinhji, who also played for England as a batsman. Duleepsinhji played 12 Tests during 1929 to 1931, where he scored 995 runs. The “Duleep Trophy” is named in his honour, which is another domestic first-class cricket competition in India (representing geographical zones of India).

Ajay Jadeja
Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja is great grand-nephew of Duleepsinhji. Ajay Jadeja played 15 Tests and 196 ODIs for India as a batsman from 1992 to 2000. In his international career, Ajay Jadeja scored 576 runs in Tests and 5,359 runs in ODIs.

Madhav Mantri, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohan Gavaskar

Madhav Mantri was uncle of Sunil Gavaskar while Sunil Gavaskar is father of Rohan Gavaskar. All of them played for India in international cricket.

Madhav Mantri was an Indian wicket-keeper who had played 4 Tests from 1951 to 1955. He had 9 dismissals (8 catches and 1 stump) along with 67 runs in his international career.

Sunil Gavaskar

India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is the nephew of Madhav Mantri. Sunil Gavaskar played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs between 1971 and 1987 as an opening batsman. He scored 10,122 runs in Tests and 3,092 runs in ODIs. He is one of the greatest Indian cricketers of all time.

Rohan Gavaskar

Rohan Gavaskar was son of Sunil Gavaskar and great-nephew of Madhav Mantri. Rohan was an Indian batsman who played 11 ODIs in 2004, where he scored 151 runs.

Apart from these, Gundappa Viswanath is brother-in-law of Sunil Gavaskar, who had also played for India during 1969 to 1983 (91 Tests and 25 ODIs).
