The popularity of former India skipper MS Dhoni was out on display yet again as the three stands at the Chidambaram Stadium were packed during a practice game for the Chennai Super Kings. The 12th edition of the Indian Premier is all set to kick off from 23rd March. The opener will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.

A journalist from Sportstar shared a picture from his twitter handle where three stands at the Cheapuk were jampacked as Chennai Super Kings played a practice ahead of the cash-rich league. Sharing the picture he wrote, “Three stands packed to the rafters for a PRACTICE match. Chants of Dhoni, Dhoni have started ringing across the stadium even as the blaring horn of the CSK team bus sends fans into a delirium. Unbelievable.

Over the years MS Dhoni has evolved as one of the most popular cricketers all across the globe. His exceptional leadership abilities make him one of the finest skippers India have ever produced. Given the captain’s role in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, Dhoni showed his mettle in the very first tournament. He took India to the title triumph in the inaugural edition of the tournament beating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.

Since then there was no looking back for Dhoni as a skipper, especially in the limited overs format. Despite being the most successful Indian Test captain, he came under severe criticism after losing away series to England and Australia by 4-0 margins. However, he is still the only skipper to lead his nation to victories in all 3 major ICC trophies which includes the World Cup, Twety20 World Cup and Champions Trophy.

He is also the most successful skipper in the Indian Premier League along with Rohit Sharma. He has led Chennai Super Kings to three title wins and has qualified in the playoffs on all 8 occasions they have been part of the tournament. Over the years Dhoni has also evolved as a sensational limited-overs batsman.

He played the knock of his life in the final of the 2011 World Cup. Captain Cool remained unbeaten on 91 of 79 deliveries which helped India lift the World Cup after 28 years. He stepped down from captaincy a couple of years back. However, he still continues to be an integral part of the India limited overs team.
