On Saturday (6th April) night, Mumbai Indians (MI) claimed a 40-run victory against the host side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the low-scoring match at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

The SRH captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar decided to field first after winning the toss. While the visiting side managed to score 136 for seven in 20 overs. The host side only managed to score 96 in response.

i) MI won this match by 40 runs.

  • It is the largest victory (by runs) for MI against SRH. Their previous largest victory was winning by 20 runs at Mumbai on 25th April 2015.
  • It is the second largest victory (by runs) for any team against SRH at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad). The record holder is Chennai Super Kings who beat SRH by 77 runs on 8th May 2013.
  • Since May 2015 (17th May 2015), it was the first victory for MI against SRH at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad). Before this victory, MI suffered three consecutive defeats against the Orange Army at this venue.

i) SRH scored 39/2 at the end of the mandatory powerplay.

  • In IPL 2019, it was the first time when SRH lost a wicket in the powerplay (0.1-6 overs). In their previous four matches of this season, SRH didn’t lose any wicket in the powerplay.

ii) SRH was bundled out for just 96 runs.

  • It is the lowest completed T20 total for SRH. Their previous lowest was 113 (20 overs) against MI at Hyderabad (Deccan) on 17th May 2015.
  • It is the sixth lowest completed T20 total for any team against MI.

i) MI pacer Alzarri Joseph had the bowling figures of 3.4-1-12-6.

  • It is the best bowling figures in IPL history. The previous record holder was Sohail Tanvir
    (Rajasthan Royals) with the bowling figures of 4-0-14-6 against Chennai Super Kings at Jaipur on 4th May 2008.
  • It is the best T20 bowling figures on the Indian soil. The previous record was 4-0-14-6 by Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals) against Chennai Super Kings at Jaipur on 4th May 2008. Deepak Punia (Services) also had the bowling figures of 4-1-14-6 against Haryana at Delhi on 26th March 2015.  
  • It is the eight best bowling figures in T20 cricket history.
