IPL 2019: Match 43, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals – Toss Report
The 43rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League will see the sixth and eight placed- Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals respectively face each other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 25 (Thursday).
Kolkata Knight Riders’ journey has been very disappointing after making an excellent start to the tournament. They have lost five consecutive matches now – they have failed to take early wickets, they are dropping catches, and they have leaked runs at the worst rate for any team this season> Also, the team has looked over-reliant on Andre Russell, who has single-handedly won the games Kolkata have registered victories. The management needs to sort all their problems quickly and script a turnaround as one more defeat can knock them out of the tournament.
On the other hand, time is running out for Rajasthan Royals too. The overseas players have made very limited contributions which have hurt them badly. Moreover, they will be without Jos Buttler, and Ashton Turner’s three ducks in a row have raised doubts over their team selection. Liam Livingstone may sneak in a game and will have to repay the trust shown by the franchise. The bowling unit also needs to come together as a unit and keep Rajasthan Royals in the hunt.
Rajasthan Royals skipper Steven Smith has won the toss and opted to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Here is what the captains said,
We are gonna bowl first. It (pitch) looks nice. Bit of grass coverage. A bit of a welcome change from what we are playing in Jaipur. Some positive signs, you want batters in the top four to score runs. We got two changes. Oshane makes his IPL debut. He comes in for Turner. Dhawal Kulkarni is out and Varun Aaron replaces him.
It’s got a lot of grass cover on it and it’ll be a great batting wicket. One of the things is to keep right people in the right space. It’s very important that we get the best out of the players who are doing well. Prasidh comes in for KC Cariappa. Brathwaite is in for Gurney.
Kolkata Knight Riders: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Piyush Chawla, Yarra Prithviraj, Prasidh Krishna
Rajasthan Royals: Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson(w), Steven Smith(c), Ben Stokes, Riyan Parag, Stuart Binny, Shreyas Gopal, Jofra Archer, Jaydev Unadkat, Oshane Thomas, Varun Aaron
