Meanwhile, the IPL 2019 is set to begin on 23 March. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals wore the blue-coloured jerseys. However, in the last season, they wore a pink colour jersey in one game to raise cancer awareness. That initiative received a massive response from the fans. Now, the franchise has decided to carry pink colour jerseys for the whole season. In the new jersey, the neckline and the end of the shirt sleeves will have blue colours.
In their official website, Rajasthan Royals has elaborated the reason to take the latest decision. Pink has a deep relation with Rajasthan, and one of those is, Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur is famously known as the Pink City. Also, Rajasthan’s other city, Jodhpur is famous for pink sandstone and another town, Udaipur produces pink marble.
On Sunday, Rajasthan Royals’ lead owner, Manoj Badale gladly announced their new official colour.
He said according to the official website, “We are extremely happy to announce our official colour as ‘PINK’. This is an exciting change for us and marks a strategic move in the direction of what we are trying to build our brand into – a fan driven team that finds ways to win from anywhere.”
The Royal Brand Ambassador
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals also announced their brand ambassador. The former Rajasthan Royals captain, Shane Warne has been selected as the Royal Brand Ambassador.
To help the Royals launch pink and build their international fan base, Shane Warne will make several trips to India.
Under his captaincy, Rajasthan Royals won their only IPL trophy and that too in the inaugural edition of the tournament (2008). The legendary leg-spinner led the side from 2008 to 2011 and then he took retirement from the game.
During his playing years for the franchise, Shane Warne also played the coaching role. In the last year, he returned to the side as a mentor. Also, Shane is delighted with his new role.
He said, “I’m very happy to be back with the Royals, and I’m grateful to the team and the fans for their constant support. It was important for us to retain our established values but at the same time develop a new and modern identity. I am already in love with the new look of the team and hope the fans will love it too.”
In the past, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings faced the two-year suspension from the IPL tournament, due to their involvement in corruption and match-fixing scandal. After completing their suspension period, they returned to the competition in the previous year.
