IPL 2019: Ravichandran Ashwin is Well Prepared on the Field – Andrew Tye
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) pacer Andrew Tye has praised his IPL captain Ravichandran Ashwin for his leadership quality. The Aussie cricketer has claimed that the off-spinner is well prepared in terms of captaincy. In the IPL 2019, KXIP is fighting it out to make it to the playoffs.
From the last season (IPL 2018), Ashwin is leading KXIP. While he had no earlier IPL captaincy experiences, the Indian off-spinner has already led KXIP side in 25 matches. Out of these 25 matches, KXIP has won 11 games and lost 14 games. Though Ashwin hasn’t gained much success as an IPL captain yet, Tye has been impressed by his leadership quality.
Recently, Tye told TOI in an interview, “He (Ravichandran Ashwin) is a great leader. He is well prepared on the field. Ashwin leaves no stone unturned when it comes to taking out stats, watching videos to help the bowlers and batsmen. He comes up with different ideas. He is a great leader and the boys love him.”
I am giving my best – Andrew Tye
In the last season, Andrew Tye won the Purple Cap for picking up 24 wickets in 14 matches. However, his performances are entirely different in this season as he has managed to pick up only two wickets in four games.
Though the 32-year-old right-arm pacer is disappointed for his recent performances, he is happy for his team’s performances in the ongoing IPL season.
Tye said about this campaign, “It is not that awesome in comparison to the last season. But I am giving my best. At the end of the day, it is not about personal success. I am really happy the team is doing good. At times, it is frustrating sitting on the bench but it is the nature of the game. It is a team game. I am ready whenever the team needs me.”
Andrew Tye made his IPL debut in 2017 when he was serving for now-defunct Gujarat Lions. He claimed a hat-trick in his IPL debut match (against Rising Pune Supergiant) and finished that match with the impressive bowling figures of 4-0-17-5. The right-arm pacer performed impressively in that season as he picked up 12 wickets in six games.
Talking about his IPL hat-trick, the Australian pacer added, “It was great. The memory of taking a hat-trick in my debut season will always be close to my heart. Coming to the IPL and taking a hat-trick was a big thing for me. Sometimes I sit back and think about it, the feeling is awesome. It is going to be one of my best memories in cricket.”
Mohammed Shami is a world-class bowler – Andrew Tye
The Aussie pacer said, “Shami has done really well for India in the last two years. He adapts to conditions quickly. Shami has a lot of experience and I would say he is a world class bowler. Curran is young and dynamic. It has been a good experience sharing the nets with Shami.”
The Aussie pacer also praised three KXIP top-order batsmen – Chris Gayle, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. In the ongoing IPL season, Gayle and Rahul have scored 444 and 441 runs respectively while Agarwal has managed to score 262 runs.
Talking about them, Tye quoted, “They are amazing batsmen. Chris (Gayle) and KL (Rahul) have the ability to adjust to any situation in the game. If one flops, the other makes sure the run-rate keeps going. Gayle is unstoppable. KL has an intelligent mindset. Mayank needs just a couple of balls to adjust, after that he turns into attack mode straight away. The three (Gayle, KL and Mayank) ease the pressure off for the team smoothly.”
Andrew Tye still believes that they can win IPL 2019
After playing 11 matches in the ongoing IPL season, KXIP has earned 10 points by winning five matches (lost six matches). Though KXIP is struggling to maintain consistent performances, Tye is still optimistic about their chances to win the IPL 2019.
He said, “Yes definitely. We have got a good batting line up. We have world class spinners. Ashwin is a superb captain and an experienced spin bowler. He has got an amazing captain mind. Hopefully, we will make it to the final this time and then win the title.”
KXIP has never won an IPL trophy. Their best IPL record was in 2014 season when they finished as the runners-up after losing the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
KXIP will play their next match on 29th April when they will face the hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Hyderabad (Deccan).
