IPL 2019: Virat Kohli Tops the List for Players with Most Defeats in the History of the Tournament

Team India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli yesterday became the all-time leading run scorer in Indian Premier League history. He is only the 2nd Indian to score 8000 runs or more in T20 cricket. Despite scoring a brilliant 84 against KKR yesterday, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their 5th straight game in the tournament.
In that process, skipper Virat Kohli became the player with most IPL defeats to his name in the history of the tournament. No player has featured in more IPL defeats than Kohli. He has been involved in 86 defeats. Earlier in the day Virat Kohli scored a magnificent 84 of just 49 deliveries and shared a century stand with AB de Villiers.
Royal Challengers Bangalore went onto register a big score of 204 on the board. However, it was a special knock from Andre Russell which turned the match on its head as KKR won the match in the end with 5 deliveries to spare. The all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 48 of 13 deliveries. KKR needed 53 to win of the last 16 and they achieved the feat with 5 deliveries to spare.
It was power hitting at it’s very best. Being an ardent cricket follower since I was 4 years old, I haven’t witnessed this kind of effortless hitting ever in my life. One or two matches it can happen but for a batsman to carry it off in the same manner in 4 consecutive matches goes onto prove Russell’s hand-eye coordination and muscle power. He doesn’t need to hit the middle of his bat as most his edges even carry over the boundary.
Meanwhile coming back to Virat Kohli he was very disappointed after the victory. He has aggregated 5110 runs from 168 IPL matches and in the process has lost 86 matches which is the most for a single player in the tournament. It is very hard to explain why one of the greatest batsmen of all time struggled to lead his franchise as a captain in the tournament.
Virat Kohli, who has 5110 runs from 168 IPL matches, has lost 86 matches in the tournament’s 12-year history. These are staggering numbers and most experts will struggle to explain why one of the IPL’s leading stars has failed so miserably as a captain. Virat Kohli has one of the very few players who has been part with the same team since the inception of the league.
