SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) innings: Middle-order collapse forced David Warner-led SRH to lose their season opener
SRH captain David Warner (6), who won his third IPL Orange Cap in the last season (2019), lost his wicket in the second over after his opening partner Jonny Bairstow‘s straight shot was deflected to the non-striker-end stumps by the RCB pacer Umesh Yadav, which forced the Aussie cricketer to get run-out due to staying outside the crease during the ball hit the non-striker-end stumps.
However, opener Bairstow and the next batsman Manish Pandey handled that early situation very well and set up the crucial 71 runs partnership for the second wicket. While Pandey lost his wicket on 34 runs, Bairstow completed his half-century nine balls later of Pandey’s wicket. The wicket-keeper batsman Bairstow completed his half-century in 37 balls by hitting a four.
During the 16th over of that innings, RCB leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally bowled Bairstow for 61 runs off 43 balls (6 fours and 2 sixes). In the very next ball, Chahal again bowled the new batsman Vijay Shankar (0).
In the next over Shivam Dube bowled Priyam Garg for 12 runs. At the end of that 17th over, Abhishek Sharma and Rashid Khan had a big collision in the middle of the pitch that forced Abhishek (7) to lose his wicket through a run-out. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan received a horrific injury on his head. But he took the bat and continue his game after getting some on-field treatment.
In the next over, Navdeep Saini dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a duck. Two balls later, on the final ball of the 18th over, Rashid Khan (6) was bowled by Saini.
In the 19th over, Shivam Dube got his second wicket after dismissing Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck.
Dale Steyn (1/33) picked up his first wicket in this season after dismissing the last SRH batsman Sandeep Sharma (9) in the final over of the match.
Player of the Match award winner Yuzvendra Chahal finished the match with the incredible bowling figures of 4-0-18-3. Also, Navdeep Saini (2/25) and Shivam Dube (2/15) got two wickets each in that innings.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) innings: Debutant Devdutt Padikkal and AB de Villiers scored half-centuries
RCB started the IPL 2020 with the new opening partner – IPL debutant Devdutt Padikkal and their new Australian cricketer Aaron Finch. The new opening partnership was totally hit as they first managed 53/0 at the end of the mandatory powerplay and stretched that first wicket partnership to 90 runs.
On his IPL debut, Padikkal completed his 50 in 36 balls – first half-century for an IPL debutant after the IPL 2016. After scoring 56 runs off 42 balls (8 fours), Padikkal lost his wicket as Vijay Shankar bowled him.
On the next ball, the left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma took the wicket of another opener Aaron Finch, who scored 29 runs off 27 balls (only four and 2 sixes).
Captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers started their batting by maintaining their strong bonding as they were busy to add runs through singles and doubles. Though Kohli lost his wicket for 14 runs after the 33-run partnership with De Villiers for the third wicket, De Villiers continued his batting till the last over in that innings.
The former Proteas cricketer, De Villiers completed his half-century in 29 balls. After scoring 51 runs off 30 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes) and setting up the 39-run partnership with Shivam Dube for the fourth wicket, De Villiers was run-out.
