On Wednesday (23rd September) evening, the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) claimed their first win in this season after thrashing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 49 runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders decided to field first after winning the toss. Mumbai Indians managed the first innings total of 195/5 (20 overs). Later, the defending champions restricted KKR to 146/9 (20 overs).

  • Rohit Sharma is the fourth batsman to hit 200 sixes in IPL history. The other three cricketers in this list are Chris Gayle (326 sixes), AB de Villiers (214 sixes) and MS Dhoni (212 sixes). 

ii) Rohit Sharma has scored 904 runs against KKR.

  • It is the most IPL runs for a batsman against a team. During this match, Rohit surpassed David Warner, who has scored 829 runs against KKR. 

iii) Rohit Sharma registered his 38th 50+ score in IPL career.

  • It is the fourth most 50+ score for a batsman in IPL history. The top three names in this list are David Warner (48 times 50+ scores), Virat Kohli (41 times 50+ scores) and Suresh Raina (39 times 50+ scores).

  • Suryakumar Yadav became the 5th Indian batsman to score 1000 IPL runs for MI.
  • Suryakumar Yadav became the 7th batsman to score 1000 IPL runs for MI.

i) The Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya (18) lost his wicket through the hit wicket.

  • Hardik Pandya became the second Mumbai Indians batsman to get out hit wicket in an IPL match. The first MI player in this list was Musavir Khote (hit wicket b S Sreesanth from Kings XI Punjab), who was also the first IPL cricketer to lose the wicket through the hit wicket.
  • Hardik Pandya became the 11th batsman in IPL history to get out hit wicket.

i) Kolkata Knight Riders’ cricketer Pat Cummins had the bowling figures of 3-0-49-0 with an economy rate of 16.33.

  • It was the joint second-worst economy rate in an innings for a Kolkata Knight Riders bowler (minimum bowled 3 overs in an innings). Previously, Jaydev Unadkat also had the bowling figures of 3-0-49-0 with an economy rate of 16.33 against MI at Mumbai on 28th April 2016. The worst record in this list 3-0-51-1 by Lakshmipathy Balaji against MI at Kolkata on 22nd May 2011. 

ii) Pat Cummins scored 33 runs off just 12 balls with the strike-rate of 275.00

  • It was the fourth-highest strike-rate in an innings (minimum score 25 runs) for a batsman against Mumbai Indians.
