IPL 2020: Mohammed Shami Explains His Role For KXIP

KXIP speedster, Mohammed Shami has explained the role he plays for the Punjab based team and its importance. Veteran Shami will lead the pace attack for the Punjab based side in this IPL. Kings XI have made some strong decisions this year, with letting captain Ravichandran Ashwin leave, KL Rahul will captain the side this season, under new coach Anil Kumble.
The KXIP squad are having their training sessions in UAE after they completed their mandatory quarantine. Kings XI Punjab have never won the IPL, playing the final once in the 12-year history of the league. Kings XI Punjab started both 2018 and 2019 campaigns strong but lost track in the later stages and failed to book a place in the playoffs.
Mohammed Shami explains his role as a strike bowler for KXIP
The 30-year-old will be a key player for KXIP this term. Shami recently told he would stand up to his role of a strike bowler and would bowl as per the situation would demand the best of the team.
“I always try to stand up to the role and give my 100 percent. I will bowl as per the situation depends…Obviously being the strike bowler, it’s important to take the key wickets it gives a big relief to the team,” Mohammed Shami was quoted as saying by PTI.
No team can be underestimated in T20 format: Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami believes no team can be underestimated in the T20 format because it is so unpredictable. He says not having been able to win the IPL yet has been bad luck for KXIP, and their luck can change any moment.
“You cannot underestimate any team in this format. It’s been our bad luck that we have not been able to lift the trophy yet. We had a great start last season. T20 format is all about execution. Our stroke of luck can change any moment,” Mohammed Shami said.
With a new captain and coach, and a well-balanced side on their hands, the Punjab fans are hopeful of seeing them lifting the silverware this season. IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the eight teams play in UAE.
