Kings XI Punjab-KXIP

Kings XI Punjab represent the city of Mohali in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise was found in 2008, the inaugural season of the league. It is jointly owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Wadia Group scion Ness Wadia, Dabur’s Mohit Burman and Karan Paul.

The Kings XI Punjab play their home games at the PCA Stadium, Mohali. Since the 2010 IPL, they have been playing some of their home games at Dharamsala and Indore as well preity zinta ipl 2017

The Punjab-based outfit has not quite managed to transform itself into a powerhouse despite a promising start to the league. They made it to the semifinal in the inaugural season. However, since then they managed to finish in the top half only once when they qualified for the final in 2014.

Promising start:
Kings XI Punjab started the campaign in 2008 on a slow note. They lost their first two games before winning the third game. The team soon found the much-needed impetus to do well and went on to win 9 of its next 10 matches. It helped them clinch a berth in the last four. However, they were thoroughly defeated by Chennai Super Kings in the semifinal. The Chennai-based outfit inflicted a heavy 9-wicket defeat on the Kings to end their season.

In 2009, the Kings XI Punjab made a mixed start to the season, winning 4 and losing 4.  The team's semi-final hopes were crushed after losing to the Chennai Super Kings in their last match. They finished the season at the fifth position, winning seven of the 14 games they played.
The downfall:
For the following few seasons, the Kings XI Punjab failed to deliver well, finishing in the bottom half. In 2010, they finished at the bottom of the league after winning just 4 of the 14 games they played.

In 2011, their performance improved as they managed to win seven game out of 14. However, they still failed to make it to the playoffs, finishing at fifth.

Their fortunes only worsened in the following two seasons. In 2012 and 2013, they finished sixth on both occasions. In 2012, they had won a commendable 8 out of 14 games but missed out on a playoff spot due to the poor net run-rate. In the following season, they once again finished with 8 wins but ended up at the sixth spot.
Brief redemption and fall:
After a handful of forgettable seasons, the Kings XI Punjab roared back to form in 2014. They looked almost unstoppable that year and went on to finish the league stage at the top after winning 11 of their 14 games. They lost  the first Qualifier against Kolkata Knight Riders but went on to make the final after beating Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier.

However, they suffered another defeat at the hand of Kolkata Knight Riders in the final and had to remain content with the runners-up finish which is their best result till date.

The performance in 2014 was not a precursor of the things that were to follow in the following seasons. In 2015, they could win just 3 of the 14 games and finished 8th in the league. In the following season, they finished at 8th once again with only 4 wins under their belt. The performance improved in 2017 but it did not guarantee them a place in the playoffs. They ended the season at 5th after winning 7 out of their 14 games.
Home ground:
Kings XI Punjab play their home matches at the PCA Stadium, Mohali. Since the 2010 IPL, they have been playing some of their home games at Dharamsala as well. In 2017, they played their three matches in Indore.

Mentally Strong People Can Go Through Mental Health Issues, Says Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara, who was in the Chennai Super Kings squad in IPL 2021, said he has seen many young domestic cricketers struggle to cope up with the pressures of international cricket. The batting star stressed the need to seek guidance and be open about mental health issues.

India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara stressed the importance of being open about mental health, saying seeking help at the right time can do wonders to a person’s life. Cheteshwar Pujara said he has seen quite a few players finding it difficult to adjust to the pressures of international cricket and pointed out that the best in the business have consulted sports psychologists.

Cheteshwar Pujara: Many Domestic Players Succumb To Pressure When They Go At International Level

Speaking during a YouTube interview for Mind Matters, Cheteshwar Pujara said he feels some people are ‘close-minded’ when talking about mental health.

“I feel we are very close-minded when talking about mental illness. Sometimes, we can feel I am mentally strong. Sometimes even mentally strong people also go through mental health issues. I feel, be open about it. Not worry too much, once you have the right guidance, it will do wonders in your life,” Cheteshwar Pujara said.

Cheteshwar Pujara added that he also has struggled to cope with pressure several times in his career but has learned to overcome it over the years. The Test batting mainstay added that he has consulted sports psychologists and it has helped enhance his performance.

“There was a time when I felt I couldn’t handle the pressure. When I had issues in my younger days, I used to go to my mother and cried in front of her saying that I had a lot of pressure and nervousness and I didn’t want to play cricket. But now I know how to handle the pressure,” he added.

“I have seen many domestic players finding it difficult to handle pressure when they go to international level. I have seen the best of the players consulting sports psychologists and they always enhance your performance.”

“I have consulted them many times and it has helped me. When you deal with the mental aspect you always have questions and to clear those doubts and I saw a different perspective after consulting a sports psychologist. So focus on the process and don’t worry about the outcome.”

Cheteshwar Pujara revealed that he does yoga and meditation to keep away from negative thoughts, which he believes can be a big deterrent to progress.

“Once you are in a negative zone, everything around you becomes negative. I do yoga and try meditation, I do my prayers every day which helps me to remain in a positive mindset. I have a spiritual guru and when I lost my mother, he said it is tough to accept the loss. He said you need to have faith and faith is something which has kept me going,” he said.

While he is an automatic selection when it comes to Tests, he has been away from the white-ball limited-overs team since 2014. He first made it to the ODI team in 2013 and made his debut against Zimbabwe in July that year. His ODI career is only 5 games so far and he has been away from the squad since then. A regular in IPL from 2008 to 2014, he has been away from IPL since 2014 when he represented KXIP.

Cheteshwar Pujara Said It’s Never Easy To Be Left Out And Go Unsold At The IPL Which Hurt The Test Specialist

Cheteshwar Pujara, who played for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 after ending a 7-year absence from the T20 league, said going unsold in the auctions did hurt him.

“It was tough if I am very honest. It’s never easy to be left out, to go unsold in the IPL. It hurt me. That is something I can’t control. After a point, I realized I had to do things that I can control. I kept on working to get better in the shorter format,” he said.

Cheteshwar Pujara has played 30 matches in the cash-rich league, scoring 390 runs in 22 innings. He has one fifty to his name in the format. The right-hander last batted in the IPL in 2014 and was bought by CSK at the 2021 IPL auction. A regular in IPL from 2008 to 2014, he has been away from IPL since 2014 when he represented KXIP.

IPL 2021: Glenn Maxwell Believes He Felt At Home In RCB Camp Since Day 1

Glenn Maxwell, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder said that he has felt at home at the franchise since day one of being here in India.

There was considerable pressure on Glenn Maxwell to perform in IPL 2021 as he had a poor IPL outing in 2020 (for KXIP at UAE), managing just 108 runs in 13 matches averaging a pathetic 15.42.

Glenn Maxwell Feels He Have Been Right At Home At RCB From 1st Day Itself

Glenn Maxwell who had a torrid time with the bat in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has managed to change his fortunes in the ongoing season as he has registered 176 runs in three matches.

“The conditions are a bit different here at the Wankhede. There have been some high scores scored here, so for our batting group, it is going to be exciting if we can get going and continue to add to those high totals.

“I felt like I have been right at home since day one, the coaching staff have been extremely supportive so have the players, it has been great fun so far,” said Glenn Maxwell in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of RCB.

RCB has managed to win all three games in the ongoing season and it will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

“It is just about taking one of the responsibilities of Virat’s shoulders. He has got a lot of things to do out there, to sort of control what fielders need to be at what positions is one thing he does not have to worry about,” said Maxwell.

Glenn Maxwell had played a knock of 78 in RCB’s last match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and he would be hoping to continue his form. Glenn Maxwell’s role at RCB is allowing him to discover a different side of the batsman in him, one that has helped him score 39, 56, and 78 in RCB’s three straight wins.

Glenn Maxwell Taken To RCB Like Duck To Water: Virat Kohli

After the match against KKR, Virat Kohli said that Glenn Maxwell had taken to RCB like a duck to water.

“Maxi has taken to this team like duck to water. AB loves the team and they were the difference today. There are areas we can work on. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves and not getting over-excited,” Kohli had told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.

Glenn Maxwell is flourishing in his new role of being the ‘third guy’ after AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli at the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp as he is the 2nd highest run-getter so far(176 runs) in IPL 2021 and has also scored joint-most fifties(2). RCB is currently at second place on the IPL points table with 6 points from 3 matches.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten run when they face Rajasthan Royals in their upcoming fixture of the Indian Premier League 2021 season.

The Virat Kohli-led side edged past defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener before getting the better of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. On the other hand, the Royals have managed to win only one of their three fixtures. They lost to Chennai Super Kings in their previous match.

Now that the team is gearing up for their first of the two matches in Mumbai, RCB’s Director of Cricket Operation, Mike Hesson has hinted that the team management might make changes in the playing XI according to the conditions. Daniel Sams has recovered from Covid-19 whereas Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa are fully up to speed now and will be considered along with Finn Allen.

Predicted XI: Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli (C), AB de Villiers (WK), Glenn Maxwell, Dan Christian/Rajat Patidar/Daniel Sams, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kyle Jamieson, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammad Siraj

Cheteshwar Pujara Advised By Rahul Dravid That Natural Strengths Don’t Go Away While Switching Formats

Cheteshwar Pujara has said that he was concerned in the past that his Test batting would get affected if he concentrated too much on improving his T20 batting. However, advice from veteran former batting legend and another Test specialist Rahul Dravid helped changed the perception of current India No. 3 of Tests. Rahul Dravid told him that a batsman’s natural game and strengths never go away.

Cheteshwar Pujara will ply his trade for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL 2021. The Indian Test specialist last played in the cash-rich league in 2014 for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

Cheteshwar Pujara Was Worried That There Will Be Some Technical Error In Tests Once IPL Gets Over Before Rahul Dravid Advised Him Otherwise

In an interaction with ESPNCricinfo, Cheteshwar Pujara revealed the apprehension he had early on in his career when it came to improving his T20 batting.

“It all comes with experience. When I was playing the T20 format in the past, I had a little bit of a worry that what if I my Test cricket gets spoiled? Then there will be some technical error once the IPL gets over. But now I am over that. What I realised over a period of time is my natural game, my strengths, will never go away.

“This advice I got from Rahul bhai [Dravid] long ago, but I would still like to mention it. He told me that your natural game will not change although you try playing different shots.” Cheteshwar Pujara said.

Elaborating on the same, Cheteshwar Pujara said: “I started playing cricket at an early age. I made my first-class debut in 2005-06. So, it is almost 15 years now where I’ve played this game. So if I am playing the T20 format now, when I prepare for a Test series, I won’t forget Test cricket. Adapting to the T20 format and moving into Test cricket again won’t be an issue, for sure.”

Cheteshwar Pujara’s IPL career at a glance

Cheteshwar Pujara has represented the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings(formerly Kings XI Punjab) in the IPL. CSK, his fourth franchise, picked up the batsman at his base price of INR 50 lakh in the mini-auction held earlier this year in Chennai on February 18.

The right-hander last batted in the IPL in 2014. A regular in IPL from 2008 to 2014, he had started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders and stayed with them till 2010. He moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2013 before being picked up by KXIP in 2014. While he is an automatic selection when it comes to Tests, he has been away from the white-ball limited-overs team too since 2014. He has played only 5 ODIs.

In his last IPL campaign in 2014, Cheteshwar Pujara played six games, scoring 125 runs at an average of 25. However, his strike rate was a paltry 100.8. Overall in his IPL career, the 33-year-old has played 30 games, with a career average and strike rate of 20.53 and 99.74, respectively.

Cheteshwar Pujara

His solitary IPL half-century came against the Kings XI Punjab when he was representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. He scored 51 off 48 balls. However, RCB lost that encounter.

A senior member of the Test team at present, Cheteshwar Pujara has achieved numerous batting records in the longest Test format. He has played many match-winning knocks and has been one of the star performers in India’s successive Test series wins in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in Australia.

Cheteshwar Pujara has played 81 Tests and scored above 6000 runs averaging 47.74. In 5 ODIs, he averages only 10.2 while he also featured in 30 IPL matches to date.

KXIP openers Mayank Agarwal and captain KL Rahul put the 48 runs partnership for the first wicket inside the powerplay as Lungi Ngidi bowled Mayank (26 runs) in the sixth over of that innings. Since then, the KXIP hugely struggled their next wickets fell at regular intervals.

While opener and skipper Rahul scored 29 runs and became the next batsman to get dismissed, the middle-order batsman Deepak Hooda was the only other batsman to score 20+ runs in that innings as his batting majorly helped KXIP to set up a challenging total in the first innings.

At one stage, KXIP were struggling on 113/6 in 17.1 overs. However, Hooda lately produced firing batting performance that helped him to complete his half-century in just 26 balls. He scored 62 not out off 30 balls (3 fours and 4 sixes) at the end of that first innings.

Among the CSK bowlers, only Lungi Ngidi managed to pick up more than one wicket in that innings as he has the bowling figures of 4-0-39-3.

Smith said, “We will bowl. Don’t know what happens here with the dew, so we are gonna chase tonight. It’s been a bit of up and down tournament for us. It’s been a tough one, we’ve got Varun Aaron in tonight. He brings a lot of pace and comes in for Rajpoot. Hopefully, he can add something for us in the Powerplay.”

On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab captain KL Rahul confirmed that they have maintained the winning combination without making any alteration.

Rahul said, “I would’ve looked to bowl as well, but looks like a good wicket, so will remain the same for the 40 overs. It’s just everything coming together, the last four or five games, we’ve come really well. It’s good to see and it’s been a complete team effort. We would look to go out there and enjoy ourselves. Same team.”
