IPL 2020 practice sessions are delayed for KKR and MI due to a 14-day quarantine rule in Abu Dhabi which has put the two IPL franchises based there, in a jeopardy. The remaining 6 teams who are based in Dubai can start training, but players of KKR and MI need an extra week before they can even step out of their rooms.

In Dubai, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab have already started training while the others are likely to start in the next couple of days or so unlike Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.

IPL 2020:KKR And MI To Resume Training After One Week More In All Probability

KKR and MI will spend an extra week without resuming training are because Dubai and Abu Dhabi have different quarantine rules. The international traveller who goes to Dubai needs a COVID-19 negative test report before departure and need to be quarantined 48 hours or so till the result of the test on arrival. But, if they test negative, there is no need for them to be isolated.

KKR reached Abu Dhabi on 20th of August and according to IPL’s Standard Operating Procedure laid by BCCI should have fulfilled their six-day quarantine on Wednesday 26th August which could have cleared them to be a part of the IPL bio-secure bubble from Thursday 27th onward besides allowing them to start training. But that has not been the case for KKR and MI as they wait for clearance as there is a 14-day quarantine rule in Abu Dhabi.

“We are waiting for a go-ahead from our team manager,” said a team official from their hotel in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Mumbai Indians reached Abu Dhabi after KKR on August 21.

IPL 2020: KKR And MI Can Resume Practice Immediately If Exceptions Made Or Bases Change

Both the franchises will not be able to resume practice till September 2 or September 3 unless exceptions are made in quarantine norms or if the base of teams changes.

MI team will be led by Rohit Sharma and will consist of Chris Lynn, Krunal and Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Surya Kumar Yadav, Ishan Kisan, Kieron Pollard, Quinton De Kock, Trent Boult and others with question marks over veteran Lasith Malinga.

KKR team will be led by Dinesh Karthik and will include the likes of Andre Russell, Kuldeep Yadav, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan, Shubman Gill and others but there are question marks over Harry Gurney for injury and Pravin Tambe who violated norms of BCCI and participated in CPL 2020.

The latest development, however, indicates that training of MI and KKR have been allowed to resume after a late-night request to the Emirates Board by BCCI, overturning local health authorities plea of 14 day quarantine period.
