IPL 2018: Kapil Dev Believes Leg-spinners Have Stolen the Show in T20 League

Former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev, who’s concurrently enjoying his stint with Star Sports Network as a Hindi commentator, in a recent show, mentioned that leg-spinner is a must in all lineups of distinct teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), deducing the trend this season.
As a matter of fact, leg-spinners such as Imran Tahir, Mayank Markande, Rashid Khan and many others have impressed the most amongst the bowlers this ongoing eleventh season.
Also, wrist spinners such as Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal have also chipped in with wicket-taking spells in their respective matches.
“Everybody has a different bowling attack, depending on which pitch they are playing. But what we have come to know from the first or second IPL (till) now, is that the most successful bowler to come out is the leg-spinner,” Kapil Sharma stated during a recent show.

To go with the flow, even offie Ravichandran Ashwin added the leg-spinner in his arsenal. “Every team has their leg-spinner. Even a bowler like (Ravichandran) Ashwin, he likes to bowl more leg-spin than off spin. That shows the leg-spinners are more successful than anybody else,” the world cup winning Indian captain added.
Ex-Team India skipper Dev could not really decipher why this trend made the off-spinners irrelevant in the game. With the leg spinners, offies have found it difficult to make the cut into the sides.
“Can’t really put a reason, but that is a wicket-taking bowler. It is difficult and not easy (to read them) and every team loves to have a leg-spinner,” added Dev.
The likes of Ravindra Jadeja lost his place in the Indian side due to the rise of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
Now, even as a retained player by Chennai Super Kings, Jaddu has had minimal opportunities with the ball.
You don’t see left-arm spinners anymore: Kapil
“I think that is where in spinners you don’t see so many off-spinners, you don’t see left-arm spinners so much, but you see leg spinners definitely,” Kapil added.

The World Cup-winning captain of 1983 Kapil Dev also had a word or two about the Purple Cap holder, Markande, who is currently undergoing a dream start to his IPL career.
“He (Markande) is good and if you are a good leg spinner, it always adds on to the team,” Dev concluded.
