Ahead of the thirteenth edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League, it seems that India’s cricket body, Board of Control for Cricket in India is facing some financial issues and thus they planned to implement some serious cost-cutting measures in the upcoming showpiece event.
As per a report on Times of India, BCCI has stated that a circular has already been sent out to all the stakeholders of the IPL including all the eight franchises that it will not host IPL opening ceremony from this edition. The circular went on to add saying that the standing fund for the play-off will also be cut down this season.
IPL prize money to reduce:
The report added that 50 per cent reduction of the standing fund has been cut down for IPL 2020. The proposal also states that the prize money for IPL 2020 winner will bag INR 10 crore as opposed to INR 20 crore in IPL 2020 while the runner-up prize money has been reduced to INR 6.25 crore from Rs 12.5 crore.
The third and the fourth-placed teams (loser of qualifier 2 playoff game and loser of the eliminator play-off match) will bag INR 4.375 crore each instead of INR 8.75 crore. The source in the know of developments said that the state associations will earn INR 1 crore per IPL match.
“State associations will now earn INR 1 crore per IPL match,” sources added.
Two franchises to debate with concerned authorities: Source
Meanwhile, the franchises are unhappy with the latest developments while two franchises highlighted that they would start debating with the authorities as per a report on TOI.
To cut down on costs, the BCCI has also put fresh travel policies for its support staff from now on. Previously, a flight trip of more than three hours meant a business class ticket for senior workers but this time around, they will have to switch to flight economy as long as the travel time duration is less than eight hours.
“Barring two or three senior most employees, the rule will apply to all, including operational heads,” the source added.
The cash-rich Indian Premier League is just three and a half weeks away from the start as the defending champions and four-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians will launch their title defence against the three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on March 29, Sunday.
