Shubman Gill was tipped to be the next big thing in Indian cricket even before India U-19 team won the World Cup in 2018. Before the final, Gill had an IPL contract worth Rs 1.8 Crores with Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-handed batsman has played two seasons for KKR and has been much talked about.

In IPL 2019, there as much debate about his batting position as the team management couldn’t decide whether to open with him or not. Gill, on his part, continued to perform but the team did not have a good run. KKR failed to make it to playoffs of IPL 2019 under Dinesh Karthik.

Since then, there were reports that the new team management might replace Karthik but Shah Rukh Khan, KKR’s co-owner, has clarified that there will be no change in captaincy. Replying to a post on social media, he took a dig at the user and confirmed that Karthik will continue to lead the team.

A surprise pick for the leadership job, Karthik had taken over as KKR’s captaincy in IPL 2018. KKR managed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2018, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second  Qualifier. In IPL 2019, they failed to qualify for the second round.
