Ireland Women beat Bangladesh Women by 2 wickets in a thrilling final to clinch the WWT20 Qualifiers trophy on Saturday at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok, Thailand.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first. Bangladesh women put a fighting total of 105 runs with the loss of 3 wickets against the Irish women, thanks to the 75 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket between Nigar Sultana and Rumana Ahmed. Sultana (41) scored highest runs in the Bangladesh innings while Rumana remained unbeaten till the end on 38 runs.

Ciara Metcalfe was the only bowler, who was able to take wickets for Ireland. She picked up 3 wickets in this innings.

Chasing 106 runs, Irish team was in tatters with wickets falling at regular intervals. Opener Cecelia Joyce displayed some solid performance before Laura Delany’s successful finishing. Joyce scored 32 runs and Delany scored vital 26*runs. In the last over, Ireland needed 8 runs with 2 wickets in hands. They successfully achieved in the total at the last ball, after scoring 2,2,1,1,1,1 runs in the last 6 consecutive balls in the final over; which was bowled by Salma Khatun (Bangladesh Women).

Rumana Ahmed and Nahida Akter picked up two wickets each in the innings.

Both the finalist, Ireland and Bangladesh have already qualified for the 2016 WWT20 (Women’s World Twenty-20), after reaching in the final of the tournament.

In the other matches, Papua New Guinea women beat China women by 7 wickets in the Shield Final; while Thailand Women won by 9 wickets with a comfortable fashion over Netherlands Women in Shield 3rd place play-off. The two semi-finalist loser (Scotland Women and Zimbabwe Women) of the tournament also met each other for the third-place play-off. Zimbabwe Women secured a thrilling victory over Netherlands Women by 3 wickets with just one ball to spare.

The 2016 WWT20 is scheduled to be held in India at next year, along with 2016 World T-20 (Men).
