Ishant Sharma Credits Jasprit Bumrah For His Five-Wicket Haul Against West Indies

Ishant Sharma‘s five-wicket haul in the opening Test match against Windies was game-changing. His two follow through catches were the turning point for the Indian team. He took three wickets in his final three overs. The tall man gave the credit to Jasprit Bumrah for giving him the advice to bowl with the cross-seam.

“There was rain and after that the ball became wet and nothing was happening (with the ball). So, we thought we can bowl with a cross seam. There was a bounce. Bumrah told me that we can try cross-seam since nothing is happening,” Ishant, who returned with figures of 5/42, said.

Ishant Sharma wanted the long partnership with Jadeja

The day was lucky for Ishant Sharma as he built a strong partnership of 60 runs with Ravindra Jadeja and took two game-changing catches.

“To be honest, when I was out during our innings, I was not feeling good at all. The more I scored runs with Jadu (Jadeja), the better it would be for the team. From 25 for 3, the kind of comeback we had, I wanted to have a long partnership with Jadeja,” said the 30-year-old pacer who is playing in his 91st Test.

Ishant Sharma played 91st Test match for India and completed his 9th five-wicket haul.  When Ishant was inquired about his follow-through catches he credited fielding coach. The fielding coach himself said that he is feeling proud today as a coach.

“All credit goes to you (Sridhar). You always said while fielding you have to always anticipate. If you do extra work after being so tired, if you do fielding after bowling so much, your fitness is increased.”
