Ishant Sharma picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings and halted West indies to 222 runs. In this five-wicket haul, the two were the unforgettable catch. It was his ninth five-wicket haul in Test matches. In the second innings, Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets, and Ishant picked three wickets which led the first Test Match win against Windies.
He credited Jasprit Bumrah for telling him which bowling style to choose in the first Innings as the field was wet.
Ishant Sharma equals the record of Kapil Dev
Ishant has played 91 Test matches and taken 275 wickets. He is in the sixth number in the table of India’s most Test wicket-taker. And before him, Zaheer Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble are standing in this list. Ishant needs one more wicket to cross Kapil Dev and gain the second spot of India’s second-highest wicket-taker outside Asia.
Anil Kumble tops the list by taking 200 wickets outside Asia and then is Kapil Dev and Ishant Sharma. He just needs to take one more wicket in next West Indies Test match to take the second spot.
There was a big halt in his career because of his continuous low performances. He suffered an ankle injury and took one month rest. But Ishant’s comeback was not impressive because of his poor performance against England and Australia. He was dropped from Test and ODI squad for some time. But again Ishant was given a chance against Sri Lanka where he took eight wickets which were turning point for India.
In 2016 he was again given a break because of the comeback of Mohammed Shami and the increasing popularity of Umesh Yadav. Ishant Sharma proved to be capable because of his ability in last Test Match.
