James Pattinson Sustains Injury And Ruled Out Of 3rd Test
James Pattinson sustained the injury while being on “approved leave” from the team’s hub in Melbourne following the 2nd Boxing Day Test, which India won by 8 wickets to level the series 1-1 after losing at Adelaide.
James Pattinson has played 21 Tests picking 81 wickets averaging 26.33 and also featured in 15 ODIs and 4 T20Is. He played Australia A warm-up game against India where he picked 3 wickets.
In IPL 2020, he picked 11 wickets in 10 games averaging 29.09 for Mumbai Indians after replacing pacer Lasith Malinga who opted out for personal reasons.
James Pattinson’s Replacement Won’t Be Named As Australia Have Sean Abbott And Michael Neser In Squad
Both teams will be arriving in Sydney on Monday to play the New Year’s Test match which will start on January 7.
The four-match series currently stands level at 1-1 after India’s stunning comeback in the Boxing Day Test which they won by 8 wickets after losing the series-opening Pink-ball Test in Adelaide by the same margin last month.
Australia won’t be naming a replacement for pacer James Pattinson as they already have pacers Michael Neser and Sean Abbott in the reserves.
Sean Abbott have played 2 ODIs and 7 T20Is picking up 2 and 4 wickets respectively. He has played 58 first-class games where he picked 160 wickets averaging 32.53. He played all the three T20Is against India where he picked only 1 wicket and Canberra ODI where he picked 1 wicket too. In the warm-up game, he picked 3 wickets.
Michael Neser had played only 2 ODIs so far and like Sean Abbott is yet to debut in Tests. In the warm-up game against India, he picked 4 wickets in 2 innings besides scoring 33.
