James Pattinson: Great Experience To Play For Mumbai Indians And Picked Brain Of Jasprit Bumrah Who Executes Yorkers Perfectly
In James Pattinson’s debut IPL season, he picked 11 wickets in 10 games averaging 29.09.
“I lucked out a bit going to Mumbai, the most successful franchise in IPL history. It all happened so quickly. It was such a great experience and surprise,” Pattinson was quoted as saying by Australian Associated Press.
“‘Boom’ is one of the best, if not the best, T20 bowler in the world. I picked his brain. I was asking about his yorkers and how he gets them so good; he likes to bowl from a higher position and a few other things.”
“You watch him bowl and just think ‘how does he do that!?’,” Pattinson said.
Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, was 2nd highest wicket-taker in IPL 2020 with 27 wickets in 15 games averaging 14.96. He has 109 wickets in 92 games averaging 23.71.
James Pattinson In Australian Test Squad And Will Also Play For Australia A
The 30-year-old pacer is one of the members of the Australia Test squad alongside pacers Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Sean Abbott and he will warm up for the four-match test series against India by representing Australia A in a tour game that begins at Sydney on Sunday, 6th December.
He said playing in the IPL “ignited a spark to play more white-ball cricket … to try and get back into Australia’s white-ball teams.”
James Pattinson, who didn’t represent Australia in T20I or ODI side since 2015, said meeting pacer Jasprit Bumrah in Mumbai Indians franchise was a good lesson in not tinkering with orthodox bowling actions.
“It’s fantastic. He’s got an unusual action, been allowed to keep doing that and it’s what makes him successful.” Pattinson said Bumrah “was happy to share a lot of information around his bowling mindset”.
“He’s a fantastic guy. He bowls a lot more than I thought he would at training. He just bowls and bowls and bowls … you see how switched on he is.”.
James Pattinson featured in 21 test, 15 ODIs and 4 T20Is for Australia. He debuted in 2011 and played his last test in 2020, last ODI in 2015 and last T20I in 2012. He has 81 test wickets, 16 ODI and 3 T20I wickets besides his name.
