Jason Holder: It’s Important To Rally Around David Warner And Give Him As Much Support Asc Possible

In an exclusive interview with Sports Today, the 29-year-old reckoned that captaincy was all about having players who are ready to rally around and support the decisions in a unilateral fashion.

The Barbados-born cricketer was quick to bring in his IPL team SRH in the context, saying that captain Australian opener David Warner was the ultimate decision-maker and it was important for players including him, Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to support him in their maximum capacity.

“Well, for me it’s about buying. You got to get players around you to buy into your plans. I think a strong leader has strong support. It’s important that players rally around their captain. For us at SRH, it’s really important to rally around David and give him as much support as we possibly can. David has to be the ultimate decision-maker.”

“He has got so much of responsibility on his shoulders and he needs people around to help and support him. So that’s where I guess myself, Kane, Jonny, Bhuvneshwar, Sandeep Sharma for Indian players at least and Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav who have got international experience.

“He has got really good resources in terms of experience around him and it’s just to us to come together and help him get the best of the players and help the franchises to be successful,” Jason Holder told on Sports Today.

David Warner captained SRH to their maiden tournament win in 2016. He was the second-highest run-scorer for them in their title-winning effort with a monumental 848 runs at a strike rate of 151.42 averaging 60.57. He amassed 641 runs in IPL 2017, 692 runs in IPL 2019, and 548 runs in IPL 2020.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) qualified for playoffs in IPL 2020. However, the David Warner-led side’s dream to lift their second title came crashing as they were defeated by Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier. SRH’s bowling department looks menacing as Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are proven match-winners for them.

In Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, the franchise also acquired another star Afghan spinner this year and he could add variety to their bowling attack. Yorker king T Natarajan earned India call-up after a superb outing in IPL 2020 for the franchise and the left-arm pacer would be looking to strengthen the SRH pace attack with Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddharth Kaul, and Basil Thampi.

Jason Holder Scalped 14 Wickets In 7 Games In IPL 2020

Jason Holder joined SRH last year as a replacement of Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who was ruled out due to an injury. Jason Holder had to wait for his chance but as soon as he got one, he made his presence felt in the team setup. Jason Holder scalped 14 wickets in 7 matches and played some handy knocks to take SRH in the playoffs. In the Eliminator vs RCB, he scored a crucial 24 not out and took 3 wickets.

In SRH’s 1st match against KKR, Nitish Rana, the opener of KKR scored a belligerent 80 off just 56 deliveries to help the Kolkata Knight Riders set an imposing 188-run target for the Sunrisers Hyderabad to chase in their IPL 2021 encounter on Sunday.

The Eoin Morgan-led side eventually walked home as the winners by a margin of 10 runs despite Manish Pandey’s fighting unbeaten 61, Jonny Bairstow’s 55, and Abdul Samad’s late blitz. Abdul Samad cracked 19 runs off just 8 balls but was left with too much to do in the end.

Kolkata Knight Riders 187 for 6 (Rana 80, Tripathi 53, Rashid 2-24) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 177 for 5 (Pandey 61*, Bairstow 55, Krishna 2-35) by 10 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore will have their task cut out as they take on a determined Surnrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday. While RCB began their campaign with a morale-boosting win over five-time defending champions Mumbai Indians at the same venue, the David Warner-led SRH lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in their tournament opener.
