Jasprit Bumrah To Travel To UK For Expert Opinion On Stress Fracture: Report

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to leave for London to seek an opinion regarding the stress fracture that ruled him out of the South Africa Test series. As per a report in PTI, he will leave for the UK soon and will seek opinions from three doctors to decide further course of action.

“The BCCI is sending Bumrah to London for further treatment on his stress fracture. The NCA head physiotherapist Ashish Kaushik will be accompanying him. The BCCI has fixed appointments with three different specialists to get multiple opinion,” Board functionary told PTI was quoted as saying by PTI.

Bumrah, whose workload has been managed since 2018, was set to make his comeback to international cricket with the South Africa Test series but was ruled out after the stress fracture got detected during the regular checkups. He was replaced by Umesh Yadav.

This is the second time in his career that Bumrah has been ruled doubt due to injury. Last year, he missed part of India tour of the UK after he suffered a broken thumb but the stress fracture is different altogether.

He is set to miss the Bangladesh series as well, and it remains to be seen if he makes his comeback for the New Zealand tour next year, where he will be one of the important players to India’s success.

After World Cup 2019, Bumrah missed the limited-overs tour of West Indies and made his return for Tests, where he shone with 13 wickets. He was also rested for South Africa T20Is.

In his absence, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami will share the new ball while Umesh is expected to be given a chance if one of these two is rested during the series.

India are expected to go with two frontline spinners in the form of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Hanuma Vihari will assist the duo with his part-time off-spin. Kuldeep Yadav might have to wait for his chance in the series

The opening Test will be played in Vizag from October 2. The next two Tests will be played in Pune and Ranchi from October 10 and 19, respectively. For the first time in his Test career, Rohit Sharma will be opening the innings in the longes format.
