David Gordon, the formative coach of New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has breathed his last on July 14 (Sunday) while watching his ward batting against England in the Super Over of the grand finale of the twelfth of the 2019 World Cup.

According to James’ daughter Leonie, her father had died soon after Neesham dispatched the ball into stands on the bowling of young lanky fast bowler, Jofra Archer.

Leonie also told Neesham that her father was proud of his performance during the recently-held World Cup.

The hosts England had won the game on the virtue of more boundaries which read as 26-17 in the Three Lions’ favour.

The Black Caps were playing their second consecutive final after losing against Australia at the MCG. Following a tie game in a regular game, the Super Over had also culminated on a tie as England lead Kiwis nine boundaries.

Batting first, Kiwis registered 241 for eight in 50 overs. However, in response, England faced tough times before Ben Stokes, and Jos Buttler recorded crucial 110-run stand for the fifth wicket. The Black Caps’ bowlers had bowled exceptionally well as the pitch had also played its part.

The Auckland-based Grammar School teacher David had often backed Neesham to go a long way.

The under-rated cricketer Neesham was the third leading run-getter for Kiwis after Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. Neesham scored 232 runs at an average of 33.14.

Also, he had snared 15 wickets in 10 matches which includes three wickets in the finale.

“Dave Gordon, my High School teacher, coach and friend. Your love of this game was infectious, especially for those of us lucky enough to play under you. How appropriate you held on until just after such a match. Hope you were proud. Thanks for everything. RIP,” wrote Neesham on his Twitter handle.
