Kevin Pietersen’s brilliant knock in the slog-over helped Dolphins to reach the final of Ram Slam T-20 Challenge. Dolphins beat Cape Cobras by 5 runs in the nail-beating knock-out eliminator round at Kingsmead, Durban.
After winning the toss, Dolphins decided to bat first. Dolphins’ openers Cameron Delport and Morne van Wyk put an outstanding opening partnership of 99 runs. After both the openers got out, Kevin Pietersen and David Miller carried that innings. Kevin Pietersen made an impressive effort in a short time, played a terrific knock of 27 runs from just 10 balls. He hit 2 fours and 2 sixes and carried a strike rate of 270. David Miller remained not out till the end with 33 off 24 balls. Dolphins finished their innings at 178/3 in the 20 overs.
In reply, Cape Cobras began their innings on a very good note. Opener Richard Levi and Wayne Parnell scored 77 runs in the powerplay (0.1-6 overs). But after that, regular falling of wickets reduced the run-rate. In the last over, Cobras needed 9 runs with 4 wickets in hands. Andile Phehlukwayo took 2 wickets and conceded just 3 runs in that last over and put his team into the final. Richard Levi scored 85 runs in 43 balls and was awarded batsman of the match; while Andile Phehlukwayo was selected as the bowler of the match award.
Pietersen was excited after the match. He praised Andile by saying, “It’s just brilliant. It’s T20 cricket at its best. It’s a great victory for the lads. Andile was just brilliant in the last over. He’s got such a calm head on his shoulders.”
Pietersen is in a very good form in recent time. Before this innings, he hit two centuries and two half-centuries in this South African T-20 franchise competition.
Dolphins will meet against Titans in the final of this tournament at Centurion on 12th December.
