Kevin Roberts Steps Down As Cricket Australia CEO

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Kevin Roberts, on Tuesday, has abdicated from his position. CA Chairman Earl Eddings also confirmed the same and said that T20 World Cup chief Nick Hockley would take over from Roberts on an interim basis.

Kevin Roberts resigned from the immediate effect after his leadership was questioned amid the pandemic. The state cricket associations criticised his decisions to handle the crises.

Eddings, in his official statement, thanked Roberts for working with the Australian board while also acknowledged the challenges that the board and he had to face during the unprecedented situation.

“Kevin has worked tirelessly since taking on the role in difficult circumstances in 2018, and particularly during the challenges of the past few months. He is a man of principle who has always put the best interests of cricket first. We wish him all the best for his future,” Eddings said.

Further, Eddings informed that the board added that they would conduct an international search for a suitable candidate to replace him.

“It is essential that Cricket Australia continues to provide strong leadership and works constructively with everyone who has an interest in the future of the game – the players, all employees, the state associations, commercial partners and supporters,” Eddings stated.

Kevin Roberts was under scrutiny since he imposed pay cuts on players and staff’s salaries. Some also said that he was exaggerating the financial strain.

Australia has rescheduled the bilateral series in summer amid the crises. India will also tour there to play three-match T20I series in October. The two teams will also play four-match Test series and three-match ODI series.

Australia is also set to host the ICC T20 World Cup later this year. However, the ongoing coronavirus has put the fate of the tournament under doubts.
