That controversial show was broadcasted on the very first week of 2019. It was the first time when any Indian cricketers came in the Koffee with Karan show. Both KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were involved in some controversial comments about women in that show. Many viewers have slammed both these cricketers and remarked those comments as “sexist, misogynistic and racist”.
That controversy made tougher their life as both these cricketers faced suspensions from the cricket. Later, they apologised for their comments. Though they returned to the cricket in less than one month of the suspension, they were fined for their controversies.
Recently, KL Rahul revealed his situation at that time.
Rahul told TOI, “I won’t lie, I was bitter for a bit; it affected and bothered me a lot. I was angry, but I came out of it all as a more accepting person. I understood that certain things are sensitive, and no matter what you do, certain people will find the bad in you.”
KL Rahul made himself busy in practice and training
Soon, KL Rahul tried to focus more on cricket that helped him to get out from that controversy.
Rahul added, “I need to focus more on cricket, spend more time in the gym, on the field — practising and training. It made me more focussed on my profession and what I really need to do. As I told you before, cricket is the only thing I am good at and there’s nothing else I can do to survive, so I need to give it all I have.”
KL Rahul has claimed that he still has a good friendship with Hardik Pandya. Rahul also revealed that they were in touch during the whole investigation process.
Rahul said, “It was hard for both of us. We did speak to each other about it while this whole process was on (investigation). He was with his family and friends and I was with my people. We switched off from the outside world for those few weeks. We learnt from the situation, accepted it, and now we are back to being good friends. We literally spend 300 days together… travelling and playing cricket. Hardik is still a good friend and we enjoy each other’s company.”
Both Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are now serving for the national team. Rahul was the second most run-scorer in the IPL 2019 where he scored 593 runs in 14 innings with an average of 53.90. However, he still hasn’t solidated his position in the national team. The 27-year-old is struggling to perform consistently in international cricket.
