Want to be a professional cricketer?
Once again, the veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh backs Kuldeep Yadav to replace Ravichandran Ashwin the playing XI of India’s Test team. Ever since Kuldeep Yadav made his debut in the Test matches, Harbhajan Singh wants him to replace Ashwin at any cost in order to have a wicket-taker in the team.
India is now preparing for the two Tests against West Indies and Virat Kohli’s choice of spinners in the series will be one of the talking points. Quite a few people are coming with their suggestions. In between, Harbhajan Singh is firmly maintaining to have Kuldeep Yadav ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Kuldeep made his Test debut against Australia in Dharamsala and ran through the Aussie batting, picking up 4/68 and giving India the edge in the series decider. He was also picked in the overseas tours to Australia and England for fine performances in the recent past.
Superb record would be working for Ravichandran Ashwin – Harbhajan Singh
Speaking to the Times of India, Harbhajan backed Kuldeep’s wicket-taking abilities despite the 24-year-old having played just six Test matches. Further, the former player also picked Ravindra Jadeja, as he got the wicket-taking abilities and also took his chances whenever he got them.
“On current form, my No. 1 spinner will surely be Kuldeep for the way he takes the ball away from the left-handers and his wicket-taking abilities. Ravindra Jadeja, too, has made most of his chances in Tests. Probably the only thing working in [R] Ashwin’s favour is his superb record against West Indies,” Harbhajan Singh said.
Over the years, Ravichandran Ashwin has been the preferred spinner for India in home and away tours. He missed the last two Tests in Australia in December-January on account of fitness, and when Kuldeep got his chance in the last match in Sydney he took five wickets in Ashwin’s absence.
Surprisingly, six of the eight bowlers in the Indian squad rolled their arms over except ace off-spinner R. Ashwin and pacer Mohammed Shami,Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini and Jadeja went wicketless in their combined 29 overs but made sure they got the full match practice before the Men in Blue begin their World Test Championship from Thursday.
