On the final day of the three-day tour match, Ajinkya Rahane gave a massive relief to the Indian side by scoring a half-century.
The Indians started the final day of this Antigua match against Windies A on their overnight score of 84/1 with 200 runs lead. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and the no.3 batsman Hanuma Vihari, the two overnight unbeaten batsmen, started that innings strongly. They had a total of 96 runs partnership for the second wicket. Vihari, who was not out on 37 runs in the first innings, scored 64 runs off 125 balls in the second innings. He hit nine fours and only six in that knock.
Ajinkya Rahane scored 54 runs
On the other hand, the out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane scored a crucial half-century in their second innings. Coming as an opening batsman in that innings, Rahane scored 54 runs off 162 balls (five fours and only six). This knock will give him a huge boost ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against the host side Windies.
Rishabh Pant was run out on 19 runs while Ravindra Jadeja only scored nine runs. Wriddhiman Saha (14 runs) and Ravichandran Ashwin (10 runs) remained not out in that innings as the Indians declared that innings on 188/5. They set the 305 runs target for the Windies A.
Among the Windies A bowlers in that innings, only the off-spinner Akim Frazer (2/43) took more than one wicket.
Windies A were struggling on 47/3
When the match finished, Windies A were battling on 47/3 in the fourth innings. Jasprit Bumrah (1/13), Ravichandran Ashwin (1/18) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/3) picked up one wicket each in that innings. The highest scorer in that innings was Jeremy Solozano who scored 16 runs.
The two-match Test series between Windies and India will begin on 22nd August. It will be the opening series for both these sides in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (2019-21).
