List Of Fastest Centuries In T20I Cricket

The South African batsman, David Miller, became the fastest ever player to score a century in T20I cricket. He tumbled records on his way to fastest ever T20I century during the second T20I against Bangladesh on October 29. The left-handed batsman manhandled the visiting bowlers and continued to bat with the same pace during the game.

In the course, he went on to become fast ever centurion in T20I cricket as well. Without talking much.

Let’s have a look at top fastest centuries in the shortest format of the game –

David Miller – It was the last game that Bangladesh were playing on South African soil in the tour. They had lost all the games in the series and had the last chance to salvage some pride but David Miller did not let them do so.

He played an innings of 101 off just 36 deliveries, which consisted of seven fours and nine sixes. Riding on his innings South Africa put up 224 on the board in 20 overs and now have a chance to win the game as well.

They are on road to a complete domination in the series over Bangladesh.

Richar Levi (45 balls) –

The South African right-handed batsman has the record of second fastest century in T20I’s. He smashed a century of just 45 balls against New Zealand.  The African team was chasing a huge target of 174 runs but they had no trouble in chasing that as they rode on a century from Levi to chase that target.  Levi smashed 13 towering sixes in his innings and batted with a strike rate of 229.41 in that innings. His glorious innings earned him an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians.

Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul (46 balls) –

KL Rahul – KL Rahul made a flying start to his limited overs career. He was up against a strong West Indies team for the first time but instead of taking the pressure, he came up with an epic performance. He scored a century off just 46 balls. He brought up his century with a six, thus becoming just second Indian to score a century with a six in all three formats.

Faf du Plessis – Richard Levi’s teammate Faf Du Plessis once missed out on breaking the record of the fastest century by a small margin of just one ball. Just before the 50 over world cup, the African team was playing West Indies at their home. It was the second T20 of the three matches’ series; African team after losing the first one tried their level best to win this one to level the series but lost the match despite a century from Du Plessis.

Plessis smashed century off 46 balls missing the record by just one ball or it would have been the fastest century that time. He amassed 5 sixes and 11 four during his innings.

Unfortunately, both the centuries came in a losing cause.

Aaron Finch, Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis (47 balls) – Fastest Centuries in T20I

Chris Gayle – First talking about Gayle innings, he earned the record in the world cup 2016 at Wankhede stadium.  West Indies were chasing 183 on a batting paradise, Gayle started off well and continued to hit bowlers out of the park from start to end. He bought century in just 47 balls smashing 11 huge sixes and five fours. He was very close to the record but couldn’t break it.

Aaron Finch –

The aggressive opener is the only player to smash 150 runs in T20I matches. Finch started the innings in full flow going after bowler right from the start. He dominated the bowlers right throughout the game which is evident from the fact that he scored 65% of teams total.

Evin Lewis –

Playing in his only second T20I and scoring a century, that is Evin Lewis for you. He replaced the big giant Chris Gayle in the squad and he imitated hit well by walking over Indian bowlers quite well. The five consecutive sixes off Stuart Binny was the highlight of his innings.

Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Babar Hayat (50 balls)  –

Chris Gayle – Fastest Centuries in T20I – Gayle’s century came in a losing cause which was hurting to see. West Indies batting first in the inaugural edition of T20 World cup scored 205 runs but the home team chased it down to hand West Indies team a loss. Gayle though batted at a strike rate of 205.26 smashing 10 sixes and 7 fours.

Brendon McCullum  – Fastest Centuries in T20I – The Kiwi opener was the first player to score a century for his country in this format. He went for all attack right from the first over and batted with a strike rate of over 200. His 8 sixes were the highlight of the day. Riding on his innings the New Zealand posted 214 runs on the board, the match was tied and New Zealand team won the one-over eliminator.

Babar Hayat – Not the first time a century has come in a losing cause. In the qualifying stage of T20 World cup 2016, Hong Kong was chasing the huge target and was on right track riding on a century from Babar Hayat but no support from the other end was the reason behind the team’s loss.
