Several Indian players have got noticed for their performance in the debut series, but some are adjudged with the awards. Notably, there are only four Indian players who have won the Man of the Series award in debut Test series.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly made the international debut in 1992 in ODIs but was dropped from the team because of his arrogant behaviour, as claimed by media at that time. However, after toiling hard in domestic cricket, he was called back in 1996 and played his maiden Test series against England. He was included in the second Test match where he proved his worth and silenced all the controversies.
At Lord’s, he registered a century (131) besides setting up a fruitful partnership with Rahul Dravid, who was also the debutant in that series. In the third Test match, Ganguly scored another hundred a shared a 255 run stand with Sachin Tendulkar. However, England won the series by 1-0. He was adjudged with the Man of the Series.
