Manoj Tiwary Moves Away From Bengal Captaincy; Abhimanyu Easwaran Will Now Lead Bengal
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has recently announced that Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead the Bengal cricket team in all formats during the 2019/20 season. Manoj Tiwary was the previous captain of this side.
On last Thursday (29th August), the CAB has announced this crucial change through the press release. The 23-year-old Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead the Bengal side in the entire 2019/20 season. Meanwhile, Sudip Chatterjee will continue the vice-captain role in all formats.
Abhimanyu Easwaran was one of the most consistent batsmen for Bengal in the last season. In the Ranji Trophy 2018/19, Easwaran was leading run-scorer for Bengal and seventh-most run-scorer in overall. The left-handed batsman scored 861 runs in 11 innings (average 95.66) during the Ranji Trophy 2018/19. In that tournament, Easwaran hit three centuries and three half-centuries, including one double-century (201*).
Easwaran also scored 326 runs and 331 runs in the last season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy respectively.
Manoj Tiwary also performed well in the last season. In the Ranji Trophy 2018/19, he was the second most run-scorer for Bengal as he scored 616 runs in 14 innings (average 51.33). On the other hand, he was the leading run-scorer for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018/19. He scored 366 runs (average 52.28) in that tournament. Also, he scored 203 runs (average 20.30) in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018/19.
Manoj Tiwary wants to concentrate on his game
The CAB selectors had initially adviced for the split captaincy for the new season. According to their advice, Easwaran would be the captain in first-class cricket, and Tiwary would continue white-ball captaincy.
However, Tiwary has wished to focus as a player for the new season. So, the selectors have finally decided to choose Abhimanyu Easwaran as the captain of the Bengal team in all formats. However, Tiwary has also assured that he will guide the new captain as a senior player.
The CAB selectors have announced the 21-member squad for the forthcoming pre-season tournament. It will be the 50-over tournament in Jaipur that will begin from Tuesday.
The Bengal cricket team will begin their new season with the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20. Their Vijay Hazare squad will be announced after the pre-season tournament.
Bengal’s full squad for pre-season tournament: Abhimanyu Easwaran (captain), Sudip Chatterjee (vice-captain), Manoj Tiwary, Ashok Dinda, Shreevats Goswami, Anustup Majumder, Vivek Singh, Ritwik Roy Chowdhury, Abhishek Raman, Writtick Chatterjee, Akash Deep, Ayan Bhattarcharjee, Raju Halder, Prayas Roy Burman, Shabaaz Ahmed, Ramesh Prasad, Arnab Nandy, Shayan Ghosh, Ishan Porel, Mukesh Kumar, Agniv Pan.
